Patriotic GAS

That’s too bad.
Yeah, it definitely hurt. I had been a customer for 35+ years. Not saying that I bought every piece of gear through them – in fact, I think I probably helped put a few of Mr. & Mrs. Sweetwater's kids through college over the years – but a good amount of what's in my studio today was purchased just a few miles from my house.

Of course, if any of my neighbors are listening, and they've got an original '60 Stack-Knob hidden underneath the bed in the guestroom, please do get in touch. ;)

Pretty much zero GAS at the moment, bass wise.

I almost bought my 4th bass a few weeks ago - a Stingray Classic. I wanted to have a pair of Ps and a pair of Rays (rounds and flats combos for both), but seller ended up having to drop out of the sale and returned my money. I lost some money because of that on the conversion/Paypal fees because I withdrew it, and it's like it hit me: "I don't need another bass, I could easily do all I need with 2 of my main basses."

So I ended up selling one of my P basses and decided not to buy stuff I don't really need. With the coronavirus situation right now, I couldn't agree more with my choice.

I think that this could veer into politics. If you do not want to spend your money on gear, say so without the policy discussion.
+1
(didn't see that comin) ;)
I know it was supposed to be a "fun" exercise meant to keep us focused on "bass/music" stuff while we kill time on TB, but you know how these things go..
Maybe you should have titled the thread, "if you got handed some cash, what would you buy from the music store?"

T$

Please no politics, just GAS.

It appears that substantial stimulus is coming our way soon. Some of that money will be earmarked for some responsible adult things, but we should get enough that I can pass some GAS. I know some things I might buy, but I talk about my GAS so much, I want to hear what others might do to musically boost the economy?
Take some online lessons from players you really admire whose day job is music and who just lost their day job. Seriously. That’s a good way to give back. Most of us probably do not need more gear. But we could all spend more time in the shed. Spend your money on education and help your mentors out.

I’m pretty set.
While we’ve been home I’ve shown my 10 year old a few chords/songs on our guitarlele. I may try to find a nice “junior” size guitar like a Taylor GS Mini or something for him to play. The guitarlele is limited and with a gotta he could use a capo and play along with recordings in the correct key and stuff.

At Christmas time the local shop made me an offer of a buy our Taylor 317 and get a Mini for free. Would have done it except that a few months earlier I bought a $1,500 Martin.

I do that already and it is money well spent.

Let's see, the USA is 23.4 trillion dollars in debt. "They" are going to throw 1 trillion on this crises by giving $1,000 to each of us? Umm, that's about 10 to 14 days worth of money. Won't go very far or really do very much good especially if this Corona goes on past 6 months.

I'm going to take the money and buy me a toy? Nope! I'm gonna go out and buy some toilet paper!

...but history is my profession. I want to do more in my profession with my time on this planet Earth.
I have been reading about the responses of King Henry VIII and Isaac Newton to the Black Death. Henry wouldn't let anyone come near him and Issac used the time off in the country to do some writing. Newton was used to hiding, if it got out that he was secretly an anti-trinitarian he would have been jailed and maybe tortured to death.

A Sterling Stingray Sub 4 (w/hardcase)
A chorus or delay pedal

The other half I'm gonna use a down payment for an engagement ring

I have headphone and auxiliary capability already, and it is great for not disturbing the family.

I live alone so there's no family to disturb, and the nearest house is fifty yards from mine. And the cattle next door and the bison across the street don't care.

Tell me, Dr., if you will: what is your area of focus in history?
