Patriotic GAS

No. There will be an income level limit. Make more than $x, you feet nothing.

- John
It may not be structured like that. Just read a Forbes article that suggested an income limit, above which your check would be reduced by 5% of the amount you make above that figure. Too soon to say, though.

I think the tone of this discussion reflects the fear and uncertainty we are feeling. I would be a liar if I said I felt the same about GAS as I did two weeks ago. First of all, I want to live through this! I can also see me making bass a pure hobby with no ambition to play out. I was getting tired of the music played at my church, and I would love less commitment on Sunday. I could see me dropping down to two or even just one bass. Bass is my passion, but history is my profession. I want to do more in my profession with my time on this planet Earth.
Times like this I would think focusing more on church (and its music) and less on gas and history would be wise. But hey, I'm not perfect either.

Please no politics, just GAS.

It appears that substantial stimulus is coming our way soon. Some of that money will be earmarked for some responsible adult things, but we should get enough that I can pass some GAS. I know some things I might buy, but I talk about my GAS so much, I want to hear what others might do to musically boost the economy?
I'm gonna get this guy

I may play for some online services, but there will be no regular service during this pandemic because there would not be anywhere near enough social distance.

Frankly, there is just as much devilment in church as out of it. I think God will be about as cool with me in or out of formal church.

Nevermind, that went completely above your head. The point isn't what you think of the music played at church (not the point of praise) or wanting less commitment but the fact that those are the things you are casting aside focusing on equipment during a worldwide crisis. I'm sorry to be blunt but I've never been good at beating around the bush.

Expecting a Mesa/Boogie Subway WD800 tomorrow =x. I mean.. I didn't spend the government's money for it but.. yeah I've kind of put all gas on hold between that and my current financial obligations.

Patriotic enough right? Dropping that kind of dough on a hand-crafted USA engineered amp to push a 4x10 cab I found used for $200 + 70 shipping years ago. :bassist: I'm inclined to believe it will be a keeper. We'll see.

Shoot Dr. Cheese maybe a headphone amp and some cans would be a good one for you for the time that you're not in church. Esp if it has an aux in so you could maybe play some backing tracks from youtube through it.

Would let you play your bass in a mix without disturbing the family at least. ;)

I think you misunderstood what I meant, I am de-emphasizing gear and playing. I want to focus more on my actual career, not my passionate hobby.

I have headphone and auxiliary capability already, and it is great for not disturbing the family.

I have taken no money from our Uncle since we parted ways when my military obligation ended and I don’t intend to start now. I return all my tax return checks and don’t participate in any government connected activity beyond required compliance and licensing.
You ...... you return your tax returns? That’s your money, it’s not some bonus the govt gives you for being a good boy, it’s literally your money that you overpay, loan to the govt without interest, and then is returned to you the next year

Alternate plan:
- many people likely unemployed due to no fault of their own... make unemployment application / benefits easier and faster...
- big corporation bailouts: ensure that the workers are getting sustenance, rather than the funds going to CEO's and stock buybacks..

In other words, support those in need before me. Yes, I said it.

Since I will likely be gainfully employed through the panic, I would give up my g to those who need it more.

I agree with although I could use the money because I am certain that I will lose at least my church musician income. The music director will work on the online broadcasts, but given the expected decline in tithes, I expect my honorarium to be cut. The upside is that a volunteer is freer not to show up. Even if we have to shelter in place, we have a nice lot surrounded by woods that is very pleasant during the warmer months.:)

Is it wrong that when I read about the potential stimulus my very first thought was "Sweet I'm buying another bass"?
Not really. The point of an economic stimulus is to get people spending again and inject money into the economy. What you spend it on is only important to you. If you buy a bass, you're helping the person who built or sold that bass pay rent or buy food. But if you need food more than a bass, then that's what you should probably buy.

I think there is a natural instinct to hold on to money because these are scary times. If a person is comfortable buying gear, cool, but remember that selling a bass in a lockdown may be very difficult or impossible if you decide you need the cash.
