Paul Gray form Slipknot found dead

You know he used Peavey amps and cabs in his rig. Pretty good tone I would say! Like a preamp unit and power amp combination and a 8x10cab, and a Sansamp D.I pedal. Also seems like he used many different tunings too.

Beens experimenting some with his alternate tunings, really opens up a bunch of creativity.

Amen...considering it was an OD ...cant comfortable say he's resting in peace....

Really not surprised in the least...:hmm:

At this point his cause of death is unknown. You really shouldn't make assumptions like this. Yes there is a possibility because he had a minor run in 7 years ago, but aside from drinking and cigarettes Slipknot isn't really known for drug use.

My feeling is if it was something super obvious like a heroine or coke OD that information would have leaked. If it's one of these Heath Ledger things were a DR messed up, that's on them.

Cool piece. I like seeing the guys just being themselves. The end part is a little ominous though. As much as I like Slipknot, I don't know how they are going to work around this. They always talk about the group and how important each member is. After ten years its hard to change that dynamic. If they did, it might end up one of these Metallica things where it's Slipknot+a guy on bass.

Man, this is terrible. This is a sad week for metal.

I can't say I was ever a Slipknot fan, but do respect that there was some level of talent at work both in the band and with Paul.

That being said I could almost literally not give a rip at music or metal's loss. Heck, rock and dead from overdose is so played out by now it should really not be a shock. Taht being of course if this is the way he did die.

And I never like hearing that anyone has died or wish death upon anyone. Where I do think this stinks and is a sad day is for his wife and unborn child.

I'd bet money on Slipknot being over

Wether or not he did drugs is nothing for any of you to judge him for. Did anyone judge jimi hendricks or janis joplin, or anyone of the numbered musicians who were stupid enough to get into drugs. NO they didn't and none of you, absolutley none of you have any right to judge the character of paul gray! The guy was a wondeful person who loved just about everyone he met. if you had met paul personally and you connected with him on some grounds you were family. As fellow bass players you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Yes he left behind his family and no one hurts more than the people close to him but do any of you think they blame him. Not at all. It was a mistake. something every single person on this chat board is guilty of. You all make guilty mistakes. it may no cost you your lives. but if it was you on here that was being trashed i would defend you as well. Instead of running your mouths about his mistakes and talking **** cause no one on here can stop you of course show some respect wether or no paul touched your lives show some respect he was part of something the world will never have agian. yeah slipknot will probably go on and still make money. but for those who are are fan(maggot core) you know i speak the truth that slipknot will never be the same. I met paul. and it was at a large feild concert. got lucky enough to slide behind stage. He was one of the first big time musicians i had ever met. but he never saw himself like that. he was just a dude who did what we all love to do play his bass. make some music and live the dream. So next time you post something about how much a selfish person he is. you should probably just keep it to yourself. Cause your a douche bag! i could rant on about how much i hate you but their is no point cause we'll never meet and you'll still run your disrespectful mouth. but you'll get yours.

"or anyone of the numbered musicians who were stupid enough to get into drugs. "

emphasis added....

didn't you just do the judgment thing yourself?

We all make judgments all the time about most everything and everyone we see; it's natures way of keeping us safe and a very rational thing to do. Some of us are just a little more discreet about giving our opinions than others are.

Don't hold back. Please tell us how you really feel. :smug:

Yes, and this time don't let good grammar get in the way!

People are going to make judgments. There isn't anything people can do about it. But I guarantee it doesn't matter to Paul Gray or his family- he's dead, and that's all they'll know and feel for the rest of their lives. Besides, most of the judgments isn't that he did drugs or that he wasn't cool and wouldn't let you backstage...it was that his behavior is going to be felt every day by his unborn child for the rest of his life.

Actions matter, so judgments are inevitable. But in the end they're meaningless to those involved anyway.

And yes, people did judge Hendrix and Joplin, but I doubt you were alive to remember. I certainly wasn't, but plenty of it has been written in literature.

Paul isn't the first rock star to die from an OD if that's indeed the case on what happened. Some of the most famous, legendary rockers went the same way. But, they are looked upon as heroes. Cobain does what he does and he was messed up, but he is a rock god. So, all the people that criticize Paul and say he deserved it and what a junkie and stuff, maybe take a look at music history first. Without those "junkies", where would we be? Disclaimer: I really like Paul and I'm an average fan of Slipknot I guess you can say, but no way am I saying Paul is on the same level of Jimi or the likes there of. But, you can't criticize one and not the rest.

Exactly. You think those guys got a free pass? They were dragged through the mud upon their deaths, by anyone who wasn't a fan. And for all we may think of their music now, at the time there were still plenty of people who believed rock wasn't real music. The Julliard School did not teach guitar back then, because they asserted that guitar was not a real instrument!

Don't let the rosy glasses worn by Baby Boomers fool you, there was plenty of judgment going around.

right. squash, i think someone needs to clue you in on the difference between respecting someone's work for what it was and glorifying their drug-related deaths.

kurt cobain is considered a rock god not because he shot himself in the head while on heroin, but because a lot of people loved his music. jimi and janis are not considered rock gods because they od'd and/or choked on vomit while od'ing, but because they made music that people loved. in fact, most thinking people that i know considered them stupid for going out like that. but you can still like their music.

when you get a little older, maybe you will realize the difference.
