Paul Gray form Slipknot found dead

I don't really care what people say about it being a disease or whatever, it's a conscious decision that you make to get addicted to it.

Fella,
I had no idea I was gonna become addicted when I first smoked pot and drank at 11 or 12 years old. The part of my brain that contains foresight and consequense wasn't fully developed yet. Had I known that I would end up a lying, thieving, homless, junkie, I don't think I would've walked that path. It steamrolled without my permission. I do take responsibility, though. I know that I chose to use and now I choose not to. It does take help and work not to use. It's been 10 years since I've taken or drunk a thing, but the thought still crosses my mind. Addiction is a mental and spiritual disorder.

Whatever happened, a fellow bassist died. It's a loss to our community whether the player involved was a pro making national news or a closet rocker who ended up in an obit in some unknown small town. A bit of musical creativity that was unique is gone from this existance, and we will never again know the exact like.

And what about people who have lost loved ones and friends because of their decision to get addicted to hard drugs? I lost one friend, and nearly 2 more to overdoses/drug problems, and another to suicide. I think it's one of the most selfish things you can do. If you overdose, that's it, you're done, and you don't have anything left to worry about it. Instead, your friends and your loved ones now have to deal with the fall out. Same with suicide.

I don't really care what people say about it being a disease or whatever, it's a conscious decision that you make to get addicted to it.

I have no sympathy for people who go out that way. My sympathies lie with the family and the relatives.

I wonder if you've lost a loved one or a friend to overdose or suicide. As I said just before, I have, and I would never wish that on anyone, especially to try and change their opinion because of something they said on the internet.
I'm in this camp.

....And I was an outpatient substance abuse therapist for some time.

I would also like to add here that in the USA alone around 40,000 people die from car crashes every year whilst only around 5000-8000 people die from drug overdoses every year, making it, in fact, more statistically likely that you will die in a car crash, making driving a car an even riskier activity.

15,600 of those fatal crashes are caused by alcohol so i think drugs and alcohol are a more risky activity.

I also have spent a good deal of my carrier in this work. I agree to an extent but always believed the addiction if it can be controlled can help the person find enough clearness of mind to make better choices and save their own live...i have seen this firsthand.

The problem is the selfishness of some who return to the addiction over and over knowing the consequences...like Paul. He gambled again and lost. Now he has a widow and unborn baby who will never know him. I cant feel sorry for them ,but disgusted he went out like this...if this what they find BTW. Addiction is a wicked road if you choose to walk it.

Damn, some people really lack empathy.

Often one stupid decision is all it takes to get addicted. And most people will relapse before they finally kick it, if they ever do.

I don't think making a stupid choice means someone deserves death.

Like any of you have never made unwise decisions in your lives. "Let he who hasn't sinned throw the first stone."

nobody deserves it, but let's face it...everyone knows what happens if you do too many drugs. not a big secret.

You know everyone keeps blaming Paul and his addiction, which I'm not by any means saying it wasn't his fault if it was an OD. But what about the people that funnel this crap into the country or cook it(depending on what he OD'd on).

These people are the ones who bring this stuff into our schools and influence weak people(weak for whatever reason, could be a million reasons) and thus start this chain that never ends.

I do blame Paul for it(again if it was an od) but I also blame the jerks who sold it to him and kept selling it to him and the others way up the chain.

Its a lot of peoples fault but I'll still miss the guy no matter what the situation.

Do you also blame the King and Ronald McDonald for obesity? I don't think they have anything to do with obesity. They are out to make money selling what we as society want. Not a whole lot different from the dealers, IMO.

Except for the fact that the King (who, lets face it, is probably dealing some nose candy on the side) & Ronald McDonald deliver a product with identical nutritional attributes. One Big Mac is X number of calories every time. One baggie of, say, heroin could have a huge difference in potency from the next.

Paul wasn't stupid. He made a stupid mistake or miscalculation. He also succeeded at doing what he loves and probably had the time of his life. Everyone is NOT equal. One person can eat McDeath and not gain weight, another will balloon in lbs. If you don't want to do drugs, don't try 'em. This is the USA and we used to have freedom. And the drugs are coming from so many directions they will NEVER be stopped. This is a criminal society that is all about MONEY. I'm for free speech, so say what you will. Closing the thread is silly. I like reading what eveyone is thinking. This is the only way we will communicate and learn and actually GROW. Yeah, drugs can KILL YOU. So can water if you drink too much.

Last time I checked our bodies weren't 70% heroin. Could be wrong though

...but it's true. Drinking too much water can kill you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication
ya, some radio station had a contest a couple years ago where they had people drink tons of water and hold their pee, and one gal in the contest died from water intoxication. however, i may be crazy but i think the risk of a heroin od is much greater than the chance of water intoxication. most people who drink water aren't trying to win a contest by holding their pee after drinking 2 gallons. usually they're just trying to survive. so let's not use this as any sort of bs reason to think heroin usage is as natural as drinking water. come on!
