Quick update on this Easter weekend. Got a new set of EH6CA7s and preamp valves from VivaTubes in MA. The first set was matched, but the Ip (current) was too high in the ~61mA range. Bias pot maxed all the way CW and couldn't get the valves below 36mA. This is because of the very high plate voltage 550vdc where most valve amps are less than that. Sent those back and Austin at Viva sent another set but matched at ~40mA/valve for the Ip, and that was the ticket.

More pics to follow once the chassis is all polished up, tolex reglued, broken wood reglued, and the amp reinstalled inside it!

Awesome, another club I can be part of. I got a peavey tko 80. I haven't tested it next to a live drummer yet, but it is more than enough for jamming in my room, and I enjoy the sound

That Peavey TNT combo, a TNT 115S, is a really nice amp. Good gawd, 90 lbs of "Step aside there son..." Best sound I've had in years, and picked up for a song...
@Loretta , you asked about the "Punch" toggle. It's a mids boost, though I can't find the specs on it in the manual. But it does exactly what it says, makes a difference in presence (close-up coming).
It's old school, not your Markbass-slick, modern sound at all. And not light! This is a slamming rock machine, but it delivers all around- of play anything with it. Not a rough piece of work at all, it easily handles a stage with a rock band without pa for a mids-sized room- probably a bigger room too, but I haven't been there yet.
I use an external DI, but I haven't run out of it yet and that might be a surprise.
Anyway, I really dig this old tank. A real sleeper and a real surprise. Got it for an embarrassingly low price, had it serviced- also a bargain.

VB-2 fully restored!

After all this work I really want to keep it. However the wife is insisting I put it up for sale. Trouble is IDK how much I can reasonably sell this for. Normally I see them go used for $700 in decent condition on Reverb/Ebay with unknown age of the tubes, maintenance history, and original filter caps from 17+ years ago. Given this has the EHX tubes, new filter caps, restored chassis, fuse holders for easier service etc, would it sell for $800-900?

8 ohm or 4 ohm speakers? I have two of those 4 ohm bad boys!! The 1502-4 baskets are NLA from Peavey sadly. They are near bulletproof however! Only issue ive run into thats a simple fix is slapping tinsel wire on the cone. Its caused by the wire being excessively long than it needs to be. Shorten them up and the cone rub like sound around 80hz goes away!

Those are 8 ohm cabs.

I'm currently trying to acquire a couple 412 bass cabs to run at 2 ohms but I'm not there yet...

I've been thinking on getting a small Class D head (mine are full-size) for backup, or just to use of course, but the prices are just too damn high imo, even used,

but I thought for $399.99 new, these Mini MAX 600-watters were the deal... but still more than I wanted to pay.

So I came across this at GC Used site and ordered it.

New with tax would be ~$432

I got this for $249.99 + 22.88 shipping + $20.47 tax = $293.34

So ~140 savings.

Listed “great” condition, but it looks mint, features sticky paper still on top of the amp.

Very cool! Let us know how you like it. I have the big brother of that head called the MiniMega. More complex EQ, more power, added effects, but no built in tuner. The Minimax is voiced to be more vintage Peavey tone, controls simplistic but effective in a small lightweight package. Im sure the head will serve you well!

Okay, I'm in!

MiniMAX arrived, it's in perfect condition, and exactly what I wanted.

Going through the functions on my band-room rig, it's just full of usable stuff.

And now I have a Mini Rig Of Doom! (4-ohm cab).

Excuse the raggedy carpet/room, this is where the guys come to make lots of noise, not part of the main house.

So I came across this at GC Used site and ordered it.

Beat me to it! I had that particular amp saved to my "Wish List".

I had a MiniMax a few months ago, but returned it within my 45-day trial period:
While it sounded great through my cabs at home (LDS 2x12 and LDS 15/6) and at one of my rehearsal spots (SWR Goliath III) -- the MiniMax EQ just did not work with the cab (Emperor 6x10) where I rehearse with my other band.
So it wasn't my "one amp to rule them all" solution (that has been my Genzler Magellan)

But recently what I've needed was a "desktop" amp to learn songs at home, and the various preamp pedals and effects processors that I tried were all awkward and cluttered - the 1/4" and headphone cables pulled them all over the desk, and I still needed to plug in a separate tuner.

Then I thought back to the front-panel Aux-In/headphone out and tuner on the MiniMax and realized those features really nail it for me, plus the lack of an external power supply further reduces clutter. And the power section is more than capable - if I ever need to call it into service.

So I found another MiniMax for a great price and it should be delivering tomorrow.
(fingers-crossed that it arrives functional and solid)

VFW Gig was a huge success! The vets were a fun crowd! My father in law is very active at our local senior center, brought 16 people alone! Was very suppressed how many were dancing, some extremely well! The person who won the 50/50 raffle even gave up the $200 cash prize back to the Hall to support them. My lead guitar player is 4 weeks since having two discs in his neck replaced. Didn't want to miss the gig. He got a stool to play sitting down and keep the weight off his neck. Just an overall good feeling charity gig. Got to try and do more of these as time allows

I picked up a Series III Bass Combo recently and just got it back from service today. All the electronics were/are original, and I found a 90s Black Widow speaker to replace the damaged one. I haven't had a Peavey combo since my TKO 115 in college, and this is much better. It's loud and clear even at high volumes, but can still get a little grit with pre cranked. It's perfect for the practice room.

I added casters so it's a little easier to move. I'm also going to add spring-loaded side handles to make make loading in/out less of a PITA.

Now if I can just find an old PV head for the Athens practice room, I'm set!

Been keeping the old eyes peeled for a MK VIII head for a while now. Specs had me all excited, but the market was slim. Then I pop onto the GC used site last night and see one! Lo and behold, it's at the GC across town from me.
So this morning, I pop over to check it out... and wouldn't you know it, the darn thing followed me home.

It was missing corners, which I had replacements for.
It was also missing the proper handles, which I'm having a devil of a time finding. They are kind of an odd size, I guess! 7-1/4" hole spread is 1" shorter than anything else I can find, so if anyone has a clue on where I need to look, MUCH appreciated.
The one handle shown is likely an original, but it's in terrible shape and this amp is heavy enough for 2 handles.

I honestly went there, thinking I'd just get a read on how it performed for me, with the assumption of it being from GC, it was likely broken in some way, so I could see if it was truly an amp for me to keep seeking. But I put it through its paces and nothing was off. All the pots were even clean and crackle free, which is a first for just about ANY older Peavey I've played through.
There was no reason NOT to buy it, so I bought it.

Now, I can finally run insane combinations of cabinets that I never could before. My practice space has a 2x15 Peavey cab and that is 4Ω. I've almost snagged a number of other ones of those, as they frequently popped up for silly low prices, but couldn't justify 2 of them with the head there.
Well, now I can do that with ease, should I want to.

Oh, I should also mention that I couldn't resist picking this up with it, as the price was stupid low and it will be replacing another cab I have for the home rig:

Missing the badge and a couple of feet, this is also a Peavey, the 410TX. My guess is, these 2 lived together as they came in about the same time.
They will continue to live together for a while, it appears!

The 410TX was the first 410 I owned. I traded it in for the 410TXF. Both great cabs, but I liked the front shelf port vs the rear for the space I had it in.
