Well, they are completely different animals. The VTBASS is very good at emulating other amps. You can get a neutral unaffested sound with the blend rolled all the way off but there is not much character to it. Using the Character and drive you can get everything from old school thump to modern clarity to over the top fuzzed out hairyness. The MiniMAX has its own voice that has a nice low, low-mid heft to it. The high end is very restrained. The bright switch adds some of that back. There is a definite "push" to the sound of the MiniMAX which may not make sense but it's hard to describe sound sometimes. The punch button on the MiniMAX really tightens up the low end and gives you a good kick. The MiniMAX is more forgiving of high output basses and you can really crank the gain and still get a nice sound that seems tubey but does not get harsh or break up. Depending on where the Character knob is set on the VTBASS things can get hairy fast. The MiniMAX also works very well with preamp pedals. I haven't had a chance to do a full on one-on-one comparison of the two yet.
I will use the MiniMAX as my main amp as it has a pre/post DI and sounds a little louder - and cleaner louder - than the VTBASS. The VTBASS is the choice for recording or gigs where I am going for a more old school vibe. I used a MAX 112-ii combo succesfully for years as a main gig amp and was tempted to get a MAX 115-ii until I heard the MiniMAX was in the works. The MAX 112 was almost perfect - I just wanted a little "more". I definitely get that with the MiniMAX.
Well My Nitro Bass Head Just Died!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you send it to Peavey to get it fixed or send it to a local guy who has a great reputation ??? It powers up but no sound comes out..... I have changed Everything cords, cabinets, Ect....... I used the same chords and plugged in my B2Re ampeg and continued to play.... I'm just glad I brought a spare head!!!
