Funny you would think with the new amps and cabs out this thread would be pack with new stuff. But no it's vintage peavey.
I remember when I got my first Peavey rig. 1971 and the only other amps you buy locally were the Fender Bassman at 50 watts or a Traynor. And I think the Acoustic was out maybe. But anyway for the money the Peavey was the best deal and back then it did sound better than the Fender.
I bought the Peavey pic above just cause it was what I used to have and they do sound good.
After I got it then locally they started selling Ampeg. SO now all that stuff is old and desirable again. But no to Anemic_Slug I don't think the Minimega will ever be a classic in the future - sorry.

I agree, the Made In China stuff might not be collectible or desirable in 20 years. The Peavey Made In USA amps are a phenomenon. In the 70's I bought all the major brands except Peavey. Then I bought a TNT in 1979 and fell in love with the growly, punchy tones of the Peaveys. They had their own sound, and combined with my Ibanez, gave me the perfect rock and roll bass tone I needed. I kept buying the various Peavey Silver Fins through the 80's to the 90's. They were always loud, dependable, heavy, and very aggressively toned. The Silver Fin Peaveys are tough, road tested tanks. They're like the B-52 Stratofortress. Sixty years old and still flying and kicking arse.
So yeah, there is something special about the American made Peaveys. If there are guys out there using the new stuff and like it, I'm very glad. Very ironic, after selling off all my original Peavey's I've spent the last ten years tracking down the models I sold and started buying them up. I have a shed of Peavey Made In USA amps. Love them.
Just brought home a Peavey Minimega. I am impressed! Ok, so I have only been fooling around with it for an hour.
Keep at it - they are nice amps. My friend has one and it sounds great.

I never have been one to "join the club" but I have been gigging with Peavey bass amps for several decades. This rig has served me well for about a dozen years: Pro 500 amp with either/or Pro 210/410 cab.
I had a Markbass Little Mark II (combo) and have tried Ampeg combos as well as two Ampeg PF-500s and a Peavey 115 Max. I had it in my mind that I wanted another Markbass head...until I tried this one out in the store. It has a tighter sound than anything I have used so far and sounds really good before I even started to twist some knobs. I found myself back to straight up more times than not.
I will keep at it!

Ran practically the same set up from new but with peavey USA cabs for 15 years sold it 10 years ago bought it back last month! Still goin strong not sure i can bring myself to sell it again

Me too . . . and the dbx463 is about as simple and effective as any I've ever used. The Pro 500 has cool air intakes on both sides right behind the front panel, so my noise gate is attached front and center with velcro.
Played a 1516 back in the day - liked it just fine, but traded it for a 410TX and an 8 space SKB rack.
