That amp in the pic is a 80's Peavey Max amp..800 watts if I remember..basically a Peavey CS800 stereo power amp with a Combo 300 front end..the aluminium around it is road case..beast of a thing..could be run bi amped with the 400 watts each side

That's it. If you ever watch the music video of Roy Orbison 'Black and White Night' the bass player is using one through a Peavey 1820. I think they weigh around 75 pounds.

Correction: Bass Player is Jerry Scheff and the enclosure is the 3620. Killer rig, sounds best if you bi-amp crossed over @ 500 hertz.

It's not modded at all. That's a 1980's Peavey Max head. That's the way they came. That's the head Tommy Shannon used along with 3620 cabd with Stevie Ray. It's essentially a pre-amp power amp combo from the factory.

I just went by the pictures I found, and made the assumption it was a modified unit. My mistake, then.

It comes with a 3620 cab. I imagine it would strip the paint off the walls. I'm thinking about it...may go take a look.

It's either a 2x18 plus 2x10 or could be 2x8's on top...but I wasn't sure they made that combo.

Knowing Peavey's cabinet nomenclature, 2 x 18"s with twin 10's would be my guess. My 1516 had 1x15" BW with 2x8" Scorpions
My first "big" cab was a 26" T.V. cabinet with an 18" organ speaker in it. Powered by Heathkit dual amp.

I recently found this AlphaBass tube head on CL for a fair price. I run it through a Cetec/Gauss 15" in an old Space Case cab, for home practice. Rated output is 160w/4ohms so it can break up pretty nicely without degrading home prices in the neighborhood.
Love this club.

I passed on one of those Alphabass amps second hand in the mid 90's..900 bucks..
should have snapped it up...one that got away..

Hi all, I recently just gotten back into playing bass after about a 3 year break. I unfortunately sold all my good gear so I'm down to just my squier P bass and a Fender Rumble 15 amp that isn't working so well. My question is would a Peavey Max 110 be a good upgrade for living room practicing or should I look for a Rumble 100? Not looking to join a band right now as I don't have time to commit, just looking to play by myself for fun. Thanks!
