Peavey MiniMega 1000

Yaay! :hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

I have it running on my desk, just to give it some burn-in time. I don't have a cable or a cab here. My office is pretty quiet and all I can hear is the whirring of the fan inside the amp. It's been sitting here for an hour or so now and I just heard the fan kick up to a higher speed and become louder. But even then still pretty quiet. And it dropped back down as I was typing that last sentence.

I turned the color wheel thing on and off and I can't hear any kind of noise either way. The serial number starts with 0DBFM, so I guess it is newly manufactured. It has a nice heft to it. Solid-feeling. I know it's kind of dorky, but it really does please me that I can set the backlighting color to what I like (red). To be totally honest, if they were fixed at some color I really don't like (say, green), I might have not bought the amp, just because of looks. :roflmao:

The carry bag is a bit cheesy. The carry bag for my Ibanez Promethean head is WAY nicer. The Ibanez bag is much more thickly padded and the top zips shut, so nothing could possibly fall out, and it has a front pocket which also zips shut. Very convenient to fit the power cord and a speaker cable in and know that neither will fall out. The Peavey bag is of the "well, I guess it's better than nothing" variety.

I am REALLY looking forward to getting this unit home and trying it out. Probably won't be tonight, though. I have a date and there's a 100% chance it will be more enjoyable than playing with a new amp. Even one as awesome as the mM. :D

Still at work. Hot date tonight. And I cannot think about anything but getting home and firing this sledgehammer up. Tonight is going to be tough. My chick is new, so I really have to seem like I'm really paying attention to her, etc.. She doesn't understand bass players or GAS yet.... LOL

And yes I was gona mention the lightweight Peavey bag. But as you stated its better than nothing. I have a couple of backpacks with an abundance of pockets to carry all I need to my gigs plus usually my GB 12.2 or GK MB800. So I may use that if the bag starts to breakup later, so far so good.

I'm able to place the power cord and speakon cord, plus a couple patch cords or small tuner in the Peavey bag side pockets, so it works. I am careful to load the MiniMega last of all my gear so it sits flat on front seat next to me or passenger floor behind my seat. Just so I know it wont move about too much and slide out of the case. I hope that single Velcro hold for the main pocket stays strong but I wont trust it with time and use.

I've made use of the color wheel often already. Depending on the venue lighting we're at, I can pick a bright or less bright color option and that's been helpful to me. And yes, face right up to my amp, I hear that fan but no high pitched tone. Getting a lot of use of this amp and its' features so far.

Yeah, you've got a library card to a library with only one book in it. My library has a lot of books in it, but the good ones are all always checked out. I want to make sure I get this book checked out and home for my leisurely reading pleasure. If I don't go to the library tonight, my book could be checked out by someone else in the meantime! LOL

Plus, my amp will be "there" tomorrow, no matter what I do tonight.

I figured I could put my power cable in the side pocket of the carry bag. I keep my speaker cables in my Mono Tick, since I don't have a separate speaker cable for every different cab I have. But, the side pocket has nothing to keep the power cord from falling out. It's not a huge deal, since I'm pretty careful with my stuff. It's very unlikely I'll lose it. But, for as nice as the amp seems to be, the carry bag just isn't at the same level of design or manufacturing quality.

BTW, do you realize that there is also a 4 (? I think) level brightness setting that you can use on the back lights, in case you like a specific color, but want it to be less bright? You don't necessarily have to change the color to get more or less bright.

You'd be surprised how much effort went into making it that...okay, while still being in the budget. It's the only time I've had to discuss sewing with a supplier. :D

That's why we made it selectable. We knew we wanted the panel to be back-lit, but we couldn't agree on a color. It goes deeper than that since we sell internationally. Red, for example, is a bad luck color in some countries. I understand it's rooted in the belief that red is the color of fire, and fire brings destruction, or something like that. We've had to do a different set of graphics for that reason in the past during a time when our general look involved red graphics. It seems trivial, but most people are very particular about colors, whether or not they admit it. I've had several people tell me that they would not have bought it if the only color was BLANK.

I totally agree. I feel somewhat enlightened [wrenches shoulder patting himself on the back] to be able to recognize and admit it about myself. :-)

I refused to buy my first KTM dirt bike until I found out that I could get a complete set of replacement bodywork for it in black - because I hate orange. LOL :D

LOL, I first read that like "you'd be surprised how much effort went into making it that cheesy.

Maybe I'd be surprised... or maybe not... :) But, if y'all decide to offer a "Deluxe" version as a separate accessory, that is really nice, like my Promethean bag, and street price is under $50, I would buy one.

The bag's not bad, really, but I'd prefer one zippered pocket for cords over the bottle holders on the sides. But if you want to go into the gig with couple of longnecks it's perfect.

I didn't really look at it until I got ready to head out. I ended up putting the cords in the main pocket with the amp.

Yes that's what I meant by choosing the lighting, I guess I didn't convey that in my post above. But choosing the different colors and choosing brightness with the dimmer is very helpful, I've not needed to use the dimmer yet, the color choices offer enough lighting options so far. I've RTFM and between using this amp at gigs last couple weekends, I've been running this amp at home thru all of my different cabs with all of my different basses to see how it works with all my gear. I'm retired so I sit home and play with my gear a lot. Yeah, I have a library card in the Gear Section of that same building; not the Chicks Section. :( :D

And of course I was tongue n cheek about canceling the date for the amp, der. But that library analogy was really weird dude. :laugh:

Bobby said that the footswitch for the amp will fit in one of the bottle holder pockets. That is cool and a good reason to have one of them, I think. But a velcro flap to keep it from coming out, and a zippered pocket for the power cord and the footswitch cable would also be really good.

I can just see the ad's on e-harmony and other sites. Instead of "Must love children" or "Must love pets" they will read "Must love Amps" or "bass gear"
