Peavey T-40 Club Part 2

This T-40 was my first bass that I picked up in '92 for $50. It was my backup several years later and sadly got caught up in a stage mis-hap that rendered it unplayable (the neck is chipped to hell). I want to make it playable again and I am on the lookout for a new neck.

I've never torn apart a bass like this with intention of deep cleaning it. Any tips?

Also, any good sources for parts or is ebay the best bet? Aside from a neck I need to locate a pair of pickup cover/pickup height screws with springs and a hex nut for a pot.

On another note, is it just me, or are T-40s suddenly much more scarce than they were six months ago? When I bought mine in January there were eight listed on Reverb at the time, several on Ebay, and probably some elsewhere too. Now, there is one (overpriced) natural on Reverb and some parts, nothing else. Same for eBay last I looked.

For eons, the mighty T40 swam in a sea of obscurity. The few disciples were mocked and ridiculed by unwashed masses of bass players without the knowledge or experience to understand the mighty T40's prowess on the musical battlefield. The few held true and as the unwashed masses slowly came to realize the error of their ways, they began madly snapping the plethora of those available leading to the shortage you see today. Once what was a "song" now costs a symphony. Woe be onto those slow on the uptake, missing the boat entirely, for they have lost out.

Can't say I've noticed a shortage,if anything there's more up for grabs.

I know of 5 for sale in the UK and 1 across the water in Ireland. At least 5 for sale in France,1 in Italy.
Those are just the ones I'm aware of,plenty more will be on the European versions of CL,in pawn shops etc.

Nice!....is the finish original? It could be your camera, as it looks really bright red.
Also toggles have been replaced. Originals have flat sides vs round.

Hey hey! Just wanted to share my new 1980 T-40! It’s all original and minty fresh. Get this... IT’S 8.4 POUNDS?!?! It must be the lightest T-40 in existence.
I found it in Sam Ash. I just randomly picked it up to laugh at how heavy it was (as they’re famous for). I was shocked when I felt how light it was! It’s lighter than my Jazz Bass, perfectly balanced and sounds and feels AMAZING.

Swamp Ash vs. Northern Ash. Ash as a wood species varies wildly in weight. At the time, it was thought that weight = tone so this one must have slipped through!

Swamp Ash tends to be much lighter than Northern Ash, but it even makes a difference where on the tree you cut, especially with Swamp Ash. My G&L L2000 is Northern ash and easily outweighs my T40's.

When I first picked it up it was so light I did a double take to make sure the body was still attached. Haha

Not necessarily, the later ones (83 onwards I think) switched to the larger round batton switches, they look right to me.
