The thing that causes me doubt about that theory is that if it was the "official case" sold by Peavey between two other case models, why wouldn't they have done something to brand it...just get two rivets and a Peavey logo? They did it with everything else.

The only "evidence" I have is that I've seen the same case used with the T40 many many times (I bought a T40 when they were first released and have been a big fan ever since). It would be odd that that many people bought the same, slightly weird, aftermarket case.

I don't know how many people actually have non-Peavey branded cases. I don't know how similar they all are or whether they're actually identical. I don't know that there was or wasn't a gap in the supply of Peavey branded cases.

I don't know know how many choices of aftermarket hard cases that fit the T-40 there were in 1979. There may have only been one. Given that and the fact that guitars were sold by retail outlets, it might not be "odd" to have many (or even all) optional, un-branded cases supplied by retailers at that time be the same.

I do know that I have an early model that I got in 1978 that came with a Peavey branded case. I know I've seen other 1978 and 1979 T-40's with the same case. I know that Peavey had/has a penchant for putting their logo on things, cases, knobs, bridges, neckplates, speaker grilles, handles...if there's room, it's on there :)

I'm not refuting or denying the claim that this case was the official case supplied by Peavey, I merely said that while it's possible, it appears to be a theory based on anecdotes and speculation. There's nothing that says anecdotes and speculation can't lead you to a fact but they won't necessarily do that.

Hey guys i got a non assembled T-40 off of this guy for free and ordered some replacement parts from stewmac but i honestly cant understand the wiring diagram for the life of me. I really want to get this thing assembled and start jamming with it so if you fellow T-40 owners have any pics of its guts id love to see how its wired.

I'll get better pictures for you guys soon, I just bought this thing off Craigslist today for $250 with HSC so the mods aren't mine. The guy I bought if off of was the 2nd owner and he said the original owner made the mods. Those switches change the sound like crazy I'm gonna need some time to figure out whats what.

my dad used to have a peavy t-40 and sold it when i was younger but ive always wanted to try one

theres one problem tho

ive been looking round pawn shops and 2nd hand guitar shops and never actually seen one

altho hobbit (my dad) said it was the best bass he ever owned because in the 14 years he had his it NEVER broke

he actually loved that bass so much he can still remeber the exact cereal number

Me too, I checked the bay regularly and was lucky enough to find mine on a local CL hunt. I think photos of mine are a page back and the story is here.

You still win by virtue of the lower price and the added knobbery! :D

Oh yeah I remember reading about yours before. Hey, don't sell your bass short, that rare Sienna color is worth something, not to mention a rare rosewood fretboard on one of these. I'd say yours is up there close to mine. Only the price I paid puts me over.

Well I'm about to leave my membership here. Love her a lot but she just hasn't gotten much playtime now that I have a few other basses that can cover the tones she gets without all the weight. Its been a good run, but its time to send it to an owner who will give it the playtime it deserves, so I put mine in the classifieds.

I'll still be lurking around here cause I really dig these basses, but with my bad back I end up preferring my lighter ones.

Everyone has different priorities and likes different things about their instruments. I'm sorry the T40 didn't work for you, but you have to go with what feels right to you, good luck.
