Peavey Tour VB-2 All Tube head. need comments!

Bobby, can U tell me if ANY dealers in AUSTRALIA got hold of any of the VB-2 amps??

There is a special version for Australia, so they SHOULD have shipped...can't say for sure.

There was a shop, can't remember where, that had one of the first 3 in the world. They were part of the Audio Products Group. I think they were in New South Wales.

Try and search for the Audio Products Group.

About the reliability issues...

The only issue we've had is a defective run of fuses. Our fuse vendor changed the fuse on us and we built about 100 like that. We have since recalled those units, so problem solved. The fuse was on the tube supply, so when it goes, the unit will power up, but no sound.


About the power supply...

The power supply is over-designed. The amp will put out 300 watts with the right tubes/biasing.

i tried one and i didnt care for it, it was always kind of fuzzy sounding with my EBMM, and the low gain input didnt work so i couldnt hear it clean sounding.

I turned down my bass and the fuzz went away and the amp sounded incredible, super warm but with some grit (my defintion of grit is a bit different). The OD channel is ok at best, I think if you want to pop out your sound a bit at specific times it could work well.

Its definitely a great amp for $900.

VB-3 Lists at $2499.99. I am a noob to Tube amps maybe someone can explain other than 100 Watts what the difference between the "Pro" VB-3 and Tour VB-2 is? What do you get for the extra $1400 (List of the VB-2 is $1099) Blue Flashing Lights??? I kid

B) If I picked this or the Traynor up, could I Plug into the PWR AMP in on the Front of my Peavey TKO 115s until I can swing a 2x10 and 1x15 Cab?

Did you order a new one? I just found a used on on gc's website I bought last night. A good deal at $500, but I could have likely ordered a new one from my brothers music store at cost, which probably wouldn't have been a ton more.

What cabs are you guys going through? I am thinking of trying a schroeder with this..........

i had trouble with the overdrive channel when i played one. in order to get MORE drive, you had to turn it up, which means you have to turn the master DOWN, and then in switching channels, you cant get them to match.

perhaps a GAIN and OD VOLUME control are in order.

Mine is used in said like new condition.

I'll be using mine through Ampeg SVT15e cabs.

I had one up until recently (funny, I traded it in for a Markbass LMII - no regrets there - at Guitar Center just a couple of weeks ago. It could have made it to OHIO.)

I found the overdrive channel to be quite useful. You can use it as a boost if you set it's gain a bit higher than the normal channel. If you set it that way, you will definitely have more drive when you get to gigging volumes.

You can also use that OD channel if you set the gain a little lower for another flavor of awesome.

It's a great head, and I never had a chance to try it with an 8x10 or the Berg NV series, which probably would have been incredible. I could just never get it loud enough and clean enough thru my speakers. And I'm not going back to lugging around an 8x10.

*sigh*

The guy I dealt with there was a complete moron to begin with. I just checked my online banking, and the dumb*** charged my card THREE times for this.

I think I am just going to call them and tell them to stuff it. So if someone else wants it.........shoot. I will wait for what I really wanted to come up, a VB4H

It's been very reliable since then, playing pretty much every weekend, 4 hours a night. I keep my settings, which i like very much, like this-

input volume about 9 o'clock
bass about 3 o'clock
mid about 3 o'clock
mid switch @ 200 hz
highs to taste
output volume around 2 or 3 o'clock
resonance and presence around noon.

It's pretty much the bomb. I have said "I'm never getting rid of this" about several pieces of gear over the years (SVT's -vintage and modern, V4B's - three of 'em, Mesa Buster 200 - what a hunk of crap that was, etc.) and I think I can honestly say that about this amp.

It has a great breakup and sounds great in a classic rock/country/blues setting. I don't play metal, and I don't slap, so I can't really say anything in that regard.

Pedro. Go get another one, dude! Warranty, Brother!!! Can't say enough good about it. Everyone run out and buy one!
