Peavey US Made Millennium Basses

Mill52.gif

Daaaaang That's beautiful!!!
and with the maple fretboard too!
I had a tiger eye with the Pau Ferro fretboard and while it sounded nice, my black one with the maple board sounded better. I'll bet that one ROCKS!!!
Now, DON'T SELL IT!

I know, I know. :rollno:

I won't be selling this one! I made a mistake letting the other one go - this one looks even better!

I like how you described the pau ferro fretboard as giving the midrange a "snarky" sound. I think that's the problem I had with the other one. I've got a really nice tube amp now, which will make a huge difference as well.

Thanks for the tip on contacting Zooberwerx!

I'm glad you found one, I though I was gas-free but now the idea of a 5-string Millennium joining the 4-sting J/MM and P/J Millennia is exerting a powerful pull.

The B-string is really good, especially with hex-core strings.

I'm going from a 19mm string spacing Lakland fiver to a 17.5mm string spacing Peavey, but I adjusted pretty quickly last time.

I just strung up a set of D'adarrio XLs on mine (and yes, depsite what they claim, the company's long scale is really regular scale -- you need super-longs for 35"). I'm not sold on them. Less than a week later and they are dying on me already I think. I had Hi-Beams on before and they felt better; more meaty and yet more supple. And at three months old they still had more life than the XLs after a week. I might try Lo-Riders next; I really like those on my Foundation. The Cirrus strings that came stock on the Millennium new also sounded darned good and for a nickel-coated string felt more like stainless steel.

I like DR Fat Beams on mine. They are bright and deep with very good string balance. I've used Cirrus strings, Ken Smith and Elixer all with good results but DR Fat beams and Lo Riders sound the best to me. I've got a set of Black Beauty's on it now but it's hard to tell how they sound because I just switched from an RBI/Crown rig to a GK 1001 and it's just killed the Millenniums sound. My TL5 sounds very good with the GK but my Millennium sounds like I'm trying to get Jaco's sound no matter where I set it. I guess I'll have to wait till I can afford a BDDI to get my good tone back.

The American Milleniums for the most part have the Music Man and Jazz style pickups, they built some with just two Jazz style also. The non American made have BXP on the headstoct also.

Like bluesbass said, the import has BXP on the headstock and have different pickups. The USA is 35"scale the import is 34" scale. The preamp has sweepable mids on the USA version and the USA version has graphite reinforcement in the neck. But you can't see that unless you saw the neck in half. Also the USA has hipshot hardware, bridge and tuners with the exception that the standard USA models have shaller tuners.
