Peavey US Made Millennium Basses

.... and I already love it.
Got this from JoshB in a trade who got it from cubanbass who got it from Dr.Cheese Maybe we should call this the official Talkbass Millenium 5 since it's been through so many hands here.
It's not a plus model so it's not as sexy as all those flamed tops and such, but it sure sounds great and is very comfy to play. I suspect that if I ever come into some cash I'll be looking for a 2nd one(probably a plus)
Right now I'm favoring the bridge pickup with a bit of low mids boosted. Sounds close to a stingray bass with that setting IMO. Feel free to chime in with other suggestions on settings.
Here are some pix from the previous owner. Now I guess I'd better go join the USA Peavey owners club.

I'm lovin' mine. I guess it's a Plus, since it has a flamed top. It's one of my main gigging basses, right next to my pair of Elricks.

I've actually owned it twice. I bought it from Zooberwerx, sold it back to him, then bought it again. Don't know where he got it, but I'd guess it came from around here as well.

I won't be selling it again anytime soon. Like it every bit as much as a previous 55-02. And it cost less and is MIA to boot!

Oops, and while looking at the headstock I realize that I've been spelling Millennium wrong. 2 nn's I've only been using 1 n.
Also, how come it doesn't say Made in USA on my bass? I know it is a US made one.

i have the alder body maple/maple 5-string in metallic black i love that bass to death it has a tone of it own it has alot of beef and i can do soo manythings w/ it awesome action saweet fretwork love the hardware i wish mine had the hipshot ultralites (maybe ill just mod mine w/ thjem soon time) but yea it's deff a diamound in the sand for me very underrated bass it has my 2 thumbs

I've got a question about what the 3rd set screw on the bridge saddles does. The one towards the back of the saddle. Seems like my bass has a bit of low saddle disease. Action a tiny bit too high on the B string but the saddle seems to be all the way down. I might be looking at a neck shim or maybe just changing to tapered strings. I'll try to get a picture up tomorrow.

Great bass cb56; I have the same thing in a 4-stringer. While you are joining clubs, you also need to join the Official Black 'n Maple Bass Club as well. That is some serious birdseye for a back of neck - very very nice.

It doesn't say "Made in USA" because Peavey only recently started producing basses offshore; when that bass was made all Millenniums were made in Mississippi (maybe even all Peaveys but I am not 100% sure). TB'ers started using the USA term to distinguish them from the imported Millennium BXPs which are fine basses in their own right.

Hey CB,
That third set screw is for adjusting string spacing.Back off the set screw and the black string rest slides back and forth. When you have it spaced like you want tighten it up again. The other two set screws are the normal saddle raising and lowering screws.
I think all the Millenniums have the saddles sitting almost all the way down when set for medium action,I've had three and they've all been like that. It's just the way they are built.I've heard of one guy shimming the neck to get really low action but I've just gotten used to it being a little higher. It's not bad when you get used to it.

Hey thanks Bluesbass. I'll dink withthe string spacing later. The action is definatley usable, just wish I had a little more wiggle room on that low B. I think I'll try a set of Fender 8050's on it next, which have a tapered B and E string. That should do the trick. If not, I'll just live with it. Like I said it's not terribly high action or anything. Right now it's got Peavey Cirrus 45-125 nickel strings on it, and they sound pretty good.

Guys, do me a big favour and shut the hell up about these. I'm poverty struck at the moment and want a Millenium four.
Like I really need a sixth Peavey.

.. and decided to shim the neck. That way I wouldn't be limited to what strings I could use. When I pulled the neck, lo and behold I see the neck has already been shimmed with two very thin paper like pieces. So I cut a identical length and width piece off of a photo business card (very thin)and set it on top of the existing shim. Carefully replaced the neck making sure the holes all lined up, restrung and adjusted. The extra thickness actually raised everything up about 1/16 of an inch so I was able to happily adjust my action the way I like it. It plays beautifully now and I have not noticed any difference in the tone of the bass.
