Peavey US Made Millennium Basses

Did Peavey ever make the Millennium with a quilt top or just the flame top?

I recently bought an odd Millennium 4 off ebay. It was described as mint condition but when it arrived I was dismayed to discover it had been refinished and very poorly. It also had a Cirrus soapbar in the neck position routed very nicely. The guy I ordered it from offered to refund me or give me half off. I took the half off and ended up paying a little under $200 for it. I refinished it and now it's my main bass. Not sure how it compares to the regular Millennium with the Jazz pickup but this thing has awesome tone. I have a Cirrus 5 and Stingray 5 and this thing fits nicely in between.

I am amazed by these Peaveys they feel great and have a sound that really sits well in the mix.

I really want a fretless Cirrus next!

That sounds like a BXP Millennium import. Does your bass actually say made in America? Is it 35" scale?

Hey doc, I agree his bass probably isn't a USA model but just FYI my USA Millennium, and all the others I've seen, don't say anything about where they are made on them. The imports should say BXP on them somewhere.

No it's definitely real Millennium Plus. I checked the SN with Peavey. It was once peacock blue and when I took the pickups out I could see where the neck pickup had been rerouted. It just has a soapbar and a new finish. I'll post a picture at some point.

BTW didn't mean to imply that it had a quilt top. It has the flame maple top I just was wondering if they ever made one with a quilt top.

My Standard has a little sticker on the back of the headstock that says "Made in USA". I love that sticker. :) What a fantastic bass........

Oh, ok, I see the bass was routed to fit the neck pickup. The only ones I've seen were flamed not quilted.

Hmmm... no sticker on mine but I'm sure it's a USA model.

Wow, I hate to hear about a Millennium being butchered. CB, it seems that Peavey is only consistently inconsistent when it comes to making variations of basses and how they mark them.:eyebrow:

The little sticker on the Standards was funny - I think Peavey had the Standards made, when they decided to go the import route with the BXPs. They held the Standards off the market and went full bore on the imports. After the BXPs were established, they blew the Standards out through Muscians Friend and added the sticker.

I am pretty sure that the USA Plus models were all flame tops - no quilts. That is basically from memory and from looking at the old press releases on them.

Well, my second Millennium 5 should be here tomorrow:hyper:
Can't wait!
I think I'm going to try Elixir strings on my Millenniums for awhile and see how I like them. I'm assuming that since the bass is 35" scale and string through body, I'll need the extra long ones. any one use Elixirs on their USA Millenniums? pros/cons?
I'll post pics in a couple of days but until then, this will have to do.

Well, got the Millennium 5 plus today and it's a nice one. Got a few mean scratches on the side but the neck and the electronics are good and that's what counts. I'll get a new family picture up this weekend. Also it came with elixirs on it and they sound great so I may be switching the strings on my other one to elixirs. I'm tired of killing strings in two weeks. Got a question about the truss rod tool. I've just been sticking a small screw driver in holes in the trussrod wheel and pushing/pulling it to make adjustments. Is that ok or do I need a special tool? It has been working ok that way.

That is what I do. It is a great design, almost too easy. I'm tempted to adjust the trussrod more than I probably should.

Here is the black sparkle USA Millennium 5 standard with the tiger eye USA Millennium 5 plus.

The black sparkle doesn't photograph so great, it looks like dust but it's not.

OK, I guess that's enough!!!

How can you tell these basses if they were made in US? I see no markers or other stuff.

I think one of the easiest ways would be to look at the hardware. The US made Millennium and Millennium Plus basses have Hipshot hardware. The tuners should be a dead giveaway - very small open gear tuners, not the Gotoh style closed mini tuners you'll find on the import models.

Also the imports have BXP in big letters on the headstock. Different pickups and preamp (3 band with mid sweep on the USA), the USA are 35" scale, the imports are 34" scale. The USA have graphite reinforcement bars in the neck (although you can't see them), and the previousy mentioned hipshot hardware. (good stuff)
But yeah, it would be nice if they said Made in USA on them like all the other made in USA peaveys.
