Peavey US Made Millennium Basses

I really like the look of these basses. I just wish I could find a 4 stringer with a maple FB with a nice finish. I saw a while ago a green burst (?) and I wish I saw the ad quicker so I could of bought it.

I may be willing to put mine on the chopping block due to some insatiable gas and since I just started playing 5 string exclusively again. If you're interested in a mint condition millennium plus for $400 + shipping give me a hollar. If the other bass I'm gassin for is still available, I'll let the Millennium go. I promise this bass is an awesome awesome bass and I'm gonna miss and regret it - I just can't justify the purchase I wanna make now without letting something go. :/

PM me anyone who may be interested.

old thread, oh well sorry for reviving it. if you have a peavey millennium plus and you want to get low action here is what you do. take those quadrajust (the little black lateral string spacing things) out of the saddles, they are pretty much worthless. they slide right out of the side of the saddle if you remove the it. then get a drill with a very small bit and make a small groove in the top of the saddle by holding the drill parrallel to the top of the saddle, be careful to put the groove in the very center of the saddle. the metal is extremely soft and it should take no more than 20 seconds to do this to each saddle, you could even file it with a butter knife if you really wanted to(seriously). this will lower the action allot(however tall the quadrajust piece of metal is plus how ever far down you go with your groove). This is allot easier to do than a shim. i shimmed my millennium plus and the saddle alteration worked ten times better, and it also seemed to help the tone by taking a superflous piece of metal out of the path to the body. if you dont like it, just put the piece back in the saddles-no harm done, or buy new hipshot A style bridge saddles($20). My millennium plus now has the lowest action of any bass i have ever played-with no rattle. I have tried to figure out why, and the reason(other than the alteration) i think the action can go so low is because of the 35" scale. the extra tension causes the eliptical pattern the strings follow while vibrtating to shrink to a smaller diameter allowing you to lower the strings closer to the board. the lower they get to the board the more the player percieves a softness or bendability in the strings, so paradoxically the 35" scale creates physically higher tension, perceived lower tension, and lower action. this bass smokes, and i mean really smokes, all of my other basses including my sadowsky mv4 as far as playability and low end resonance.

I did the shim thing that CB56 did to his and it made a very big difference,my bass plays way easier now and it wasn't bad to start with. The bridge mod does sound like it would work but I think I'll leave mine the way it is for now.

When I bought my Millenium 5 plus used a while back the blend pot was messed up.When I turned it towards the neck pickup it hung up and wouldn't pan all the way over. When I put new batterys in it smoke came out of the control cavity when I opened it.I disconnected the batterys, took the knobs off and pulled the preamp out.I used some spray cleaner lube from Radio Shack on the pots and worked the blend pot around to loosten it up.It still wouldn't go all the way towards the neck pickup, just about half way.I put it together thinking I'd have to get a new preamp but it worked without noise the way it is and has worked that way ever since, probably 9 months.

Today I ordered a new preamp from Peavey and it cost me $52.They asked me the serial number of my bass and verified what bass it was and said they would get it right out to me.It was hard for me to believe it only cost $52 and the service I got from them was great. My bass has been working fine but I always worried that the pot might screw up again and it will be nice to blend all the way to the neck pickup for P like tones.Hats off to Peavey for great customer service.

Hey CB,the bridges on all the USA Millenniums are Hipshot A style. That bass on ebay did take a hard hit.Even though it has that awesome birdseye neck it still shouldn't go for more than $400 or so.I got mine in much better condition from The Low End for $450.Mostly I've seen them go from $450 to $650.Also his $2200 retail price on the Millennium plus 5s is wrong, they were at $1600.They are for sure a real bargain.

Ok, thanks for that info bluesbass2. I miss understood and thought the hipshot saddle were a replacement saddle that would help lower the action. I should read twice before I post.:hmm:
Looking through some old threads I see thet bass that I own also used to belong to you?
Also I'd like to know about what kind of strings everybody is using on there Millenniums. Especially the 5 stringers like mine. I'm still thinking about doing a tapered B string. Maybe, maybe not.
Yesterday my new band which is just getting started, set up our PA outside and played for a couple of hours. I got a good chance to A/B the Millennium 5 against my Schecter Elite 5 through our PA and I must admit the Peavey sounded by far the best. Looks like I'm hooked on this bass.

I thought that your bass was my old one too but mine had Gotoh tuners and it looks like yours has Hipshots.Mine looked exactly the same though,it even had some nice birdseye on the back of the neck.I'm using DR Fatbeams or DR Lowriders on mine.I used to use Cirrus strings and liked them but tried a set a few months ago and they seemed dull compared with the DRs.I'm just hooked on the DR sound.

Ok cb,those are the Gotohs and that would be my old bass then. That Maple board neck had the best feel of any bass I've ever had.I traded a Pedulla Rapture for it with another TBer a few years ago and he had got it from Bass Alone new so I was the second owner. It's been through a few more TB members since I had it.FWIW those tuners that are on it work just as well as the Hipshots that have been on the other two Millenniums I've had.

Did Peavey ever make the Millennium with a quilt top or just the flame top?

I recently bought an odd Millennium 4 off ebay. It was described as mint condition but when it arrived I was dismayed to discover it had been refinished and very poorly. It also had a Cirrus soapbar in the neck position routed very nicely. The guy I ordered it from offered to refund me or give me half off. I took the half off and ended up paying a little under $200 for it. I refinished it and now it's my main bass. Not sure how it compares to the regular Millennium with the Jazz pickup but this thing has awesome tone. I have a Cirrus 5 and Stingray 5 and this thing fits nicely in between.

I am amazed by these Peaveys they feel great and have a sound that really sits well in the mix.

I really want a fretless Cirrus next!
