Pedal Power Supply Recommendation??

I have a cioks and a trutone

Cioks cables are odd.

Trutone has I think one of the supplies that is 18v and I don’t have any 18v pedals so it’s useless.

I do prefer the trutone

I wouldn't call Cioks cables 'odd', they are just different. Coming from an analog world, I find the RCA connectors quite normal and give a much more solid connection than the Voodoo cables. Plus the Cioks cables are WAY easier to route on your board.

But good point about the 18v outlets on a Truetone or Voodoo...if you don't have an 18v pedal it's a wasted outlet.

I wouldn't use anything but Cioks. I have 18V requirements for one of my pedals, two more that prefer 18v for a little more headroom, three that need 400mV and overall, love the Cioks DC-7 flexibility. Your needs may not be as complicated but it's certainly nice to know you have the power whenever and wherever you need it. If or when, in my case, you need even more power, there's the Cioks DC-8 to add even more possibilities to your ever growing board.

As many have said—and many have SAID that many have said—the DC7 is top notch. I never thought I would need more than that, and then I figured out that I could power my Jule Simone tube preamp by voltage doubling four outlets, so I got the DC4 to extend it. My entire board, which includes two preamps and a digital pedal, is powered by the DC7/DC4 from under a Pedaltrain Metro24, meaning I only have a single IEC power cable powering the rig.

That said, I’ve also had a Voodoo Labs power supply and it’s good, clean isolated power. But it wouldn’t fit under this board.

I would just daisy chain those off of a OneSpot.

I am daisy chaining 11 pedals on my PT Jr board.

If/when you get some current-hungry digital pedals you can spring for the Cioks, but right now for what you have it is overkill.

I have seven 9v pedals that I would like to run in to a single pedal board power supply. I am looking at the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2+ and maybe the Truetone CS7 right now, but are there any better options for me? Here is what I have:
Tech21 Sansamp Programmable DI
Boss TU3 tuner
EBS Multicomp
Electro-harmonix Bass Clone chorus
MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe
MXR Bass Envelope Filter
MXR Bass Octave Deluxe
None of these pedals require extra juice. Help! Thanks in advance!

I grabbed a Vitoos, which works incredibly well and supplies all the independent voltage I need.
And what a surprise, they actually put out 9v on a meter too. And a lot cheaper.

I guess my point is, power is power, it seems like the marketing folks have done a great job.

I have a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 (not the Plus). It was manufactured in 2004.
i bought it used in 2010 and it has been running on my board with 4-8 pedals since with no issues.

Edit….I’m not saying to buy a 20 year old power supply but these Voodoo Labs do seem to be built really well and made to last.

The Cioks DC7 is superb. You may not need it with your current pedals, but it will handle anything you can throw at it if you ever add more demanding pedals, and it can even be expanded. That said, on my smaller board, I have a TrueTone CS6, and it works very well. High quality, but not much touches the quality and flexibility of the Cioks.

'Nuff Said. Buy a CIOKS and never look back.

I'm happy to spend more to get what works well, and I have some fussy and/or high-draw pedals on my boards. The Voodoo Labs stuff works great on all of it. Silent, solid, reliable.

I have the Strymon Zuma. I wanted something high quality, universal voltage without external power adapter, and light weight. Is also easily expanded beyond the 9 outputs it comes with. The only one that combines all these requirements as far as I know.

A number of the cheaper power supplies are not truly isolated. So it’s like paying more and carrying more weight for what is basically a glorified OneSpot daisy chain.

That looks good for the price but I'd never use it on a gig due to the proprietary power adapter.

Are you sure that the power supply is proprietary other than it's 12v? barrel size looks to be same as "typical" 9v (maybe).

OP have you looked up each pedal's current draw (mA) and voltage, etc. and made a list? Add up the total current draw.

I haven't seen anyone mention it so I will. Check out the new Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 3 Plus. It's slightly bigger than the DC7 but actually weighs less and has 5 more ports and tons of juice.

Or the "PowerAll" supply 2000mA, prettymuch the same and maybe a little less coin. Get the cable kit to cover bases and voltage doubler cables for 18v if you need in the future. Again all depends on your budget and other factors such as how often you gig, covenience etc.

If you're looking at the PP2+, I would instead recommend the new PP3. Not necessarily the PP3+, but at the very least the PP3. Frankly I think the PP3 does everything the 2+ can do, but better. The main reason besides cost to buy the 2+ over the 3/3+ is that the 2+ has much more niche voltage options, but none of the pedals you list would qualify for those. However, the price difference new is only like $20, so I wouldn't really consider it much.

The 3/3+ ditch the niche voltage options for simply allowing you to switch a couple of the outlets between 9V and 12V, which is much more compatible with what you're likely to see in the modern pedal world. Instead you get lots more current, which would probably serve you better in terms of future-proofing against whatever you may buy in the future. As well, they include ports for very easily plugging in the X4/X8 to expand your power, without having to fiddle with extra wall adapters. Just run a normal barrel cable from the 3 to the X4 and you've got 4 more outlets whenever you need it, without sacrificing any of the 3's normal spots.

Nothing sucks more than adding something to your board, or even revamping the whole thing, only to find that the power supply isn't quite cutting it... so this is quite a good idea to me!

The 3 is also smaller and quieter than the 2+, which is always a bonus.

I currently have a 2+ on my board, but soon I will switch to probably the 3+ when the money comes around.

While waiting for my Rockboard supply to arrive from Europe I bought a "Hiree" which was $30 and.. it's great. Bonus no wall wart to power it (regular plug cable, transformer is in the box itself), it's small, the 18v's work great on my EBS comp and Broughton hipass and the cables it comes with are nice and thin. Unexpectedly noiseless.
