Pedal sample thread

NNNOO - can't die yet. I've still got some more BNX3 samples to post as promised but I'm hugely busy with my business ( just coming up spring here down-under yay ), plus our 3pce has gigs booked until Christmas now - perhaps this coming weekend with some good management. :hyper:

And all those samples are made with the BNX3 ???

Pretty cool stuff - just one question is the Octaver any good ? Does it track well - and low ???

Yes all samples in BNX folder are with the BNX3. As Superbassman2000 will vouch, this was my very first attempt at recording on to card and posting to web so imagine what you techo computer savvy guys can do with this thing!

Octaver? Think I understand your question and think the answer is yes - l'll post a new octaver sample just doing scales perhaps and you can hear for yourself or do you want some fancy fast stuff ( dunno how you'll hear how well it tracks, especially low in that case )

This unit has literally millions of permeatations and is ideal if you're laid up at home with a broken leg for months - you'd need that long to try them all. For example say you want auto double stops of a note plus its third based on dorian mode in the key of F - you dial it, you get it!

Now you really have motivated me to squeeze some time in for more samples this weekend.

Sick guitarist = cancelled gig = time to get some more BNX samples posted - they're transferring as I type.

Couple are of the BTB1005 clean to compare the BNX effects to. No drums this time. And they're rough and ready, nothing fancy at all but enough to provide the drift hopefully.

Some slow low scales for the Octabass to demonstrate tracking and low B is lowest demoed. Octabass seems to have some problems when you do an arpeggio on G ( on E string ) 3rd 5th and Oct, when you hold on to the G ( on the D string ) the ocatve suddenly disappears. Octaving seems very sensitive to any extraneaus noise so it's perhaps my heavy bright round wounds and my not so good technique causing that problem - just on that G note though, very odd.
Most factory preset effects that are interesting have now been sampled, all without any mods and all running the BTB flat. If any of you want some of those samples modified in any way, I'll be happy to do it.
None of the factory preset amp models has been sampled - they are good some of them, but not interesting enough to post I reckon.

Man, it tracks LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW !!! :)

And to my ear it tracks faster and cleaner than the G-major.

By the way - how is the loop sampler - is it easy to use ??? I have a Line 6 Echo Pro and it works great, but I was wondering if you can store the samples on the memory card and then call them up when you need them. That would be a big advantage.

Manual says that's a synch, but;

mmmm now you're exposing my complete naievity (he says face going red) and if I ask my teenage son who's doing a tertiary course in live sound and lighting management at a music academy, he'll be finally convinced that I know absoultely nothing and arrange 24hr home help. So I need your assistance please.

I need an idea of where and why you'd use a bass loop sampler and what sort of things you'd play on it ( some tabs perhpas?), how long etc. Then equiped with this info, I'll try and nut out how to go about it. *If I can work it out and get the samples to you, then that would prove it's as simple as getting a guitarist to extend his solo for another 12 bars.
Also let me know what effects out of those I've posted would be good for a loop.

btw The Reff, did you pick up that dead spot ( synthed octaved note dies after a second or 2 ) on octabass during that G arpeggio when I held the G on the D string, I think I did it twice - any idea what may cause that?
Maurice
edit: *If I can work it out after you've given me some ideas about loop function....

Kelly,
I was kind of hoping there would be a request to alter those samples already posted but that hasn't happened and as I've posted most of the interesting ones already, I hadn't planned on posting any more.
I'm not sure yet about how to go about the looper and I was waiting for someone to offer help there - but I guess interest has died so - guess the thread is ready to fall into the abyss.
Sure enjoyed being part of it and also the help you guys gave me - I had a lot of fun with it and got to know some nice people.
Blessings - Maurice

i am glad to see this still going!
anyhow, i am making a visit home this weekend, and i want to put some samples of my sabine overdrive and fuzztortion online for everyone to hear. for anyone who doesn't know, these are pretty cool boxes. they are actually made for the guitar, but i use them for my bass, they've got a two band EQ on them (treble and mid) but they also have duel outputs, so i can mix a clean sound in with it. i was looking at these pedals for years, and i finally got the push i was looking for when MF put them at 30 bucks!

Thanks Reff, it's the musical approach of the concept I'm at sea with.

The technical side, I should be able to work out via the BNX manual other wise that doesn't say much for the manual and/or the user friendliness of the BNX3 - which I assume would be one of the objectivess of the thread.

I've never come across the need for bass loops, hence my ignorance of the concept.

There are many ways to approach looping. You can record a bassline and solo over it until you drop. Or you can record some chords and do the same thing.

I like to take a bassline and record it. Then I put some effects on another layer and record some chords over the bassline. I'm currently testing new ways to use looping with my rock trio - mostly with a bassline when I solo or with some kind of effect that I can switch on and off during a song.

Do any other have suggestions on how to use looping ?

Hope this helps.

what i do is make some sort of drumbeat however i can on the bass, either slapping or just hitting your bass, hitting dead notes or something, then do a bassline, maybe add a few chords or general embellishments, and then solo over it!
i would recommend listening to people like steve lawson for inspiration...it helped me a lot in figuring out how to build loops.

good luck,
Charlie

Great - thanks guys, got the picture ( I think ). So a sample of looping for this thread then would be a looped background with another bassline played over it. I'll have a play around and see what I can come up.

Excuse my ignorance once again, I'd like to get hold of some tunes of what Superbassman2000 recommends - Steve Lawson plays for ???
