Pet Peeves, let's hear them.

I hate when others use my mic. I know I should be more relaxed about it. But I'm kinda weird about germs and I want to puke trying to sing into a Mic after someone else, with their spit and breath on it. I take my Mic everywhere and only use mine, and never let anyone use mine. I have a sm58 in the bag for them to use. I'm just weird about it.

That's not so bad really. In my soundman days, we were running a festival once with ten bands. At about band seven we noticed the lead vocals were sounding muffled. Between songs I quickly replaced the mic (a Beta 58) and brought it back to the FOH board. We took off the windscreen and looked at the little foam insert. It was saturated and dripping with liquid. It had to be wrung it out. I was so disgusted that I went and washed my hands immediately.

Then you have guys like the Cramps' lead singer who would stick the entire thing in his mouth. You have every right to be particular about YOUR mic.

I see that movie, Idiocricy, playing.out in real time every day. The more we advance the dumber we are getting as a whole.

that's fine as long as you agree that you are also dumber than the generations before you. You can't just arbitrarily choose that all change up to your point in time is good but everything since is devolution. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it bad.

Also wouldn't "dis", "dat" etc be cultural as well? If so, I don't understand why that bothers you but "color" doesn't.

How about the fact that "color" is a word, its in a dictionary. And yes, I probably am dumber than generations before me, simply because anything I need to know is a mouse click away and I don't have to really have to put forth any effort to learn about something. So less knowledge is actually retained, this is true for everyone. I am sorry if it offends you that I don't like to read something that a grown person typed out that reads like an eight year old did it. Why are you taking offense to my pet peeve when there is a whole thread of other people you could be arguing with?

I'm not much of a singer, but when its absolutely necessary for me to sing backup vocals, I use my own mic. Using a community mic is like making out with every dude that's ever used it :D

No, the word is pronounced with TH not a D sound.

for now :D, change takes time, words aren't added to the english dictionary as soon as they appear in spoken word.

there was a time when this was considered English,

Ōhthere sǣde his hlāforde, Ælfrēde cyninge, ðæt hē ealra Norðmonna norþmest būde. Hē cwæð þæt hē būde on þǣm lande norþweardum wiþ þā Westsǣ. whose to say what it will evolve to.

She doesn't like it either.

The fact that Sirius/XM's hard rock station, formerly The Bone Yard, has been bought out and renamed Ozzy's Bone Yard and that mumbling, burned out false idol and his wife are constantly reminding me of it between songs. I like Black Sabbath and his Randy Rhodes era solo stuff, but I'm sick and tired of Ozzy Osbourne being regarded as some kind of rock 'n' roll god. Why can't they just occasionally play his songs? Why did they have to sell the station to him so that I have to hear him all the time and be reminded that he owns it?

People who walk really really slow in the middle of the isle at the store (grocery, hardware, wherever...) and meander along so that the only way to get around them is to nearly run right into them as you brush past.

People leaving their stalled cars in the middle of the road instead of popping them into neutral and pushing them onto the shoulder. If it weighs less than four tons, it's not hard to do at all.

That may be how you pronounce it, but others may pronounce it differently.

Depends on the dictionary. Some dictionaries may not include that spelling. Dictionaries often contain slang and colloquialisms as well.

It is correctly spelled and pronounced with a TH sound, ask anyone at all who speaks English fluently. Dat is in no dictionary in the world. As I asked the other guy, why are you so offended by MY pet peeve, that is just one in a thread full of them.

The fact that I agree with so many of the previous posts tells me how crabby I'm becoming as I get older. Everything seems to piss me off these days! Especially people chewing with their mouths open and eating like horses. Sagging pants are a big one. I could give a **** about your comfort...I don't want to look at your ass! The "their/there/they're", "your/you're", and "then/than" issue really bothers me. I have a few that haven't made the list so far.

Referring to the internet as the "interwebz". It's not as cute as you think it is.

I have a lot of problems with cell phone etiquette. I'm starting to think the whole world would be better off if we collectively decided to throw them all in the ocean. Here are a few:

People who get pissed off when they call me on my cell phone and I don't immediately answer or call them back right away. Just because I own a cell phone doesn't mean that I'm available 24/7 for your convenience. People weren't available at a moments notice 20 years ago and we got along just fine.

People who walk up and try to interrupt me when I'm on a phone call. I've been on work related calls in public places and had people come right up to me asking for cigarettes or directions. Can't you see I'm talking to someone!

Oh yeah, and people who try to bum cigarettes. It's decidedly not the best habit, but I can afford my habit. If you can't afford a habit, don't ****ing do it!

When I'm on a phone call with someone and, without any warning, they start talking to someone else. Hello, we were just holding a conversation! I understand that occasionally something comes up that needs your attention, but excuse yourself for a moment or call me back. My boss is HORRIBLE about this. I'll be talking to him and then start hearing him have a completely different conversation with someone on his end. I've had to wait 2 or 3 minutes for him to come back to the conversation. I just started hanging up when this happens because it pisses me off so much! It was SO important to interrupt my day with some minor question and when I begin to answer it, you aren't even giving me your attention...really?

If me not liking the purposeful misspelling of words offends some people on this board, then your disapproval of people screwing their, there, and they're is going to give someone a heart attack.

I forgot one until I was reminded during my nightly scan of local Craigslist postings. For some reason this one REALLY "grinds my gears" and has done so for as long as I can remember. I see it frequently on Craigslist, but it has popped up on eBay and elsewhere...even on TB a couple of times.

When someone is selling a piece of musical gear and they describe it with some form of this phrase:

"It has a good sound to it."

What the hell is that supposed to mean?? I always thought this was a regional colloquialism until the advent of eBay and other internet classified listings. Arrrrgh...I don't know why, but it irritates the piss out of me. It makes the seller sound like a moron of epic proportions.

An example for illustrative purposes:

Standard lies commonly told in classified ads.

Often seen in a motorcycle ad in the Seattle area "Never ridden in the rain."

You are obviously lying! It is SEATTLE! That's what we do! You either ride in the rain or you really don't ride much. What else are you lying about in your motorcycle ad?

I had a Yamaha 600 that I sold about 9 years ago. I have twice seen it on Craigslist being sold by different owners since. I know because of the custom Sargeant seat and some other unique mods. Also I had a big notebook recording all the maintenance, repairs, and road trips. I also had a scrapbook magazine article and print ads and such. All this stuff shows up, and each ad had the phrase;

"Always garaged."

I can tell ya, for the 50,000 miles I put on that bike it spent maybe 5 nights in a garage! It was stored under the eves of the house where it didn't get directly rained on, but it was not "always garaged" by the guy that put 99% of the miles on the thing!

You'll love this. :)
