PH610 or (2) PH410's??

Has anyone compared the Mesa PH610 as opposed to (2) PH410's? I'm currently running my M9 Carbine through the PH610 while my PH410 sits in the corner. I was thinking about getting rid of the 610 and buying another 410 and running 810's instead. Will my sound remain generally the same tone-wise or will I lose some bottom end (rumble) the 610 may be giving me? Any thoughts???

Both great cabs, I love the 610. What kind of music are you playing? One thing my friend used to do was use two 4x10s for a killer stereo rig, a cab on each side of the stage. It was only him and the guitarist though. Where are you are playing? Any decent PA will work and an M9 & 610 provide great stage volume ( I used a M6 & 610 in a brutal metal band, I had no problem being heard on stage over two Dual Recs) I cant imagine stacking two 410s as a 8x10 config will give you much more 'low end' than the 610 and would be much more to move. I always thought the Mesa 610 was the best of both worlds: still fairly portable and loud as a mofo.

I disagree with the "more to move"comment. I think wheeling in one 610 (or 810) and then putting your rack on top is much easier then rolling in 2 410s and lifting on onto the other, then putting the rack on the taller cab configuration.

IMO, I'd stick with the 610 and perhaps sell the 410 for a PH210 or 112 for small gigs or added volume.

Perhaps I wasn't as clear but I was saying that the two 410s wouldn't give you that much more low end and would be more to move than the 610.

I had the PH 6x10 for about 5 years and loved it. It was super easy to move in and out and I never was at a lack for volume. Way easier to move than 2 4x10s. ( I've got 2 4x10 s now)

I'd say depending on your gig... only you can make the call.

One 4x10 would still be more to manage than the 6x10 on wheels in my experience.

Thanks for the responses! For me, moving 2 smaller cabs is much easier since I have small vehicle - the 610 is a bear and I can hardly lift it by myself. I have used (2) 410 GK cabs in the past and love the 810 configuration. My concern isn't so much the maneuverability as it is the deepest of lows. I've heard that an 810 (single cab)puts out more "rumble" or low end than (2) 410 cabs. Is that your experience? I don't want to lose the bottom the 610 gives me.

I play a powerhouse 4x10 and just ordered a 2x10 to complete my rig.

I just thought it will be the easier rig to move/use. A single 2x10 for rehearsal and home, a 4x10 for bar gigs and small venues and 2+4 x10 for larger venues, outdoor gigs.

If you don't mind the weight of things I'd stay with the 6x10. Not that much heavier than the PH 4x10, about 30 lbs If I remember right. My brother-in-law has the PH610 and I had the PH410. While my 410 had a good deep voice to it, it did not compare to his PH610. I got tired of the nearly 100 pounds of the 410 and got a Hartke Hydrive 410. It is not near as deep sounding as the MESA but at 30lbs lighter, for me, it was worth the swap. I think ultimately you'd be far happier moving the 610 around than 2 410's, of course, the choice is yours.

Speaking from the experience of someone who's played TONS of PH410s, and has owned both the PH610 and PH810, here's how *I* see it:

A pair of PH410s will have more low end than a single PH610, so you won't be "losing" anything with such a swap - although I'd much rather move a PH610 than a pair pf PH410s...

When I compared my PH810 to my PH610, the 810 was easier to hear, and sounded a bit smoother - probably due an extra pair of 10s with the horn... The 810 just plain crushes - by far the best cab I've ever played thru... IME, a pair of PH410s is really close to a PH810, sound-wise...

I own a PH412 which is the same size as the 810 and its easier to move then my PH410. I recently aquired a second ph401 and matching ph210 and although they sounded fantastic together, carrying the 70 pound really sucked and lifting the cube shaped, 100 pound 410 in and out of the car was even worse. I can roll my 412 along like a dolly and tilt it into my car with a lot less effort. I love my 410 for its tone but it fires at your knees when used by itself and its just such an awkward shape. Don't think it will be taken out much as the 412 just kills it!

Are all six of the drivers in the PH610 identical impedance? how can they get 4 Ohms from 6 speakers? Or are four of them 8 ohm (series/parallel) and two of them 4 ohm in series?

or are they 6 ohm speakers? thanks all! i am also considering a 610 but only if the power is balanced evenly between all drivers...

that's the problem; yes it'll all "work", but you've got that 2x10 getting the same amount of power as the 4x10.

the 2x10 will be maxed out before the 4x10 gets the power it deserves.

for this setup to be balanced, you'd want the 2x10 to have two of the same 8Ω speakers as the 4x10 has, and to be wired in series for 16Ω.

that setup (8Ω 4x10 + 16Ω 2x10) would actually deliver power equally to all 6 speakers, creating a kick-butt 5.3Ω "virtual 6x10 cab".

Yeah, they're all 6 ohm drivers, wired in series/parallel...
