No I would not. But if they want to do it they will figure it out. Needing reading glasses is also not a matter of choice.
I hate phone calls, is right in there with I hate asparagus. Sure I don't like it, but when my wife serves it, I eat it.

On the flipside, nobody is more miserable to be around than an extrovert that's been cooped up in the house for a week!
I've heard that many businesses are now implementing "mail-free" periods during the week to force people to talk (wether directly or on the phone), because so much communication nuances are lost in text/mail (it takes a highly skilled writer to convey fine points in a lengthy text, let alone an email).
Small derail re. party lines : each family having a different ringing pattern.... does that mean that each and every call triggered ringing in EVERY HOME???? 3am, one short, one long, one short... everyone in the street : "oh my! Jerry's drunk at the bar and lost his keys again, and he's calling Betty to come pick him up!"

Following the thread: the physical limitation (problems understanding via hearing or seeing) can cause a social awkwardness. There are stereotypes about socially awkward fellas with glasses for a reason...
Correct, but some strange social awkwardness can be the result of an underlying physical or mental problem.
So we sort out what is due to something someone tries overcome vs what someone chooses to not overcome.
"I hate phone calls" is among the latter.
Makes you appreciate your smart phone with the do not ring when I am asleep feature, don't it?

I can't believe that so many young people are reluctant to use the phone. A generation (or two) of social cripples.
I apologize for all the tangents. Because I relate (and am not 22) these topics are interesting to me.
It occurred to me from the vision analogy that musicians could have the same problems regarding reading music. For example, "Get off my lawn! I want to find some musicians to work on a project with me but these darn 22 year olds only know how to read tabs!"
It's funny because I run into the same problems with bands musically with this issue as I do with communication. Most of the musicians I work with prefer to learn parts by rote or by ear while I'd rather learn from sheet music or from charts. To me, notes on a page are much more clear, but it's a problem because I can usually read much better than the other guys in the room and therefore very few work in an ideal way. On the other hand, musicians that learn best by rote tend to have better musical memory than me which I always work to develop.

There is nothing wrong with having some phone anxiety at 22. I promise you will get over it. I also think that a phone call is a great idea. Talk slowly. Chew gum while you take the call.

I did it guys. It went alright, better than expected. I'm going to stay looking. He said he would contact me if things looked like they were heating up. As of now there wasn't much going on.
