I remember those as Sunbeams, at least that's the badge the few ones in my birth-town had. A bit like some of the variations in mini's (Austin, Morris, Wolseley Hornet etc).

About rear engined cars, Škoda was a more common car than Hillman where I grew up.

The upperclass of Czechoslovakian rear engined cars was the Tatra.

Tatra's were rarely to be spotted at the western side of the Iron Curtain.
The first T603 I saw, was parked in East-Berlin. Really something else.

the wolsley hornet was part of the bmc group [british motor company ] austin morris jaguar rover triumph etc the riley elf was also like the hornet minis really. sunbeam was part of the roots group as were hillman and singer the singer having the chamois the lux version of the imp. and the stiletto being a fastback sports version which was fun to drive and quite fast

In the 60's there was a Jaguar dealer in my neighborhood. On nice days they would park all their new XKE's out in front of the building, along with a few Sunbeam Tigers. I had to walk past them on my way to school. Stopping to gawk made me late for school more than a few times. It was worth it.

i used to see these coming out of the factory where i live always loved them in fact my uncle used to test them

I'm not a big car guy so I can't appreciate them on the level that you folks do, but as a kid I always loved these (not in this color though). I also loved the air suspension that jacked the car up when you turned it on. (It did do that, right? Or am I remembering wrong because I was a kid?)

The point I'm making is that BMC and the Rootes group were both badge-engineering virtually/technically the same car with different brand names.

The reason that those IMP's weren't that widely spread on the continent had to do with a wide variety of rear-engined cars that could easily match them in price and performance. (Think NSU TT, Simca 1000 rallye, Fiat 850 abarth, 850 coupe, 850 spider, Fiat 600, Renault 8 and older, Renault Dauphine)

Yeah sure, like a BSA Rocket 3 will beat a Münch Mammut.
Or like the English motor industry was superb and superior over the German car makers. That's why there's hardly anything British left, and most of what's left uses German engineering and capital.

forget about the rocket 3 kawasaki ninja all the way for me japan over german for me. the munch mammut [never heard of them have they won at the tt isle of man i dont think so bsa have

Oh yes! I thought it looked familiar. My barber when I was younger had a Ram 50. Unfortunately, it rusted VERY quickly on the NE Ohio roads.
