PJ Club

Here we go, both currently active and seeing pretty much equal amount of play time:

1. Fender American Special 2011 (Lovey).JPG
2. Fender Aerodyne Jazz 2018.JPG

A pair of Maton JB4 reissues.
Lusted after one since I first saw them many moons before I even picked up a bass.
Got the fretted version from a "getting divorced" sale.
The poor guy bought it new. Never even plugged it into an amp. Dabbled with it 3 times and put it back in its case and under the bed, where it sat for 20 years. Paid $1200 AUS
Has the original purchase price sticker on it $1800.

Fretless version, I scored about 4 months later after placing a WANTED ad. Guy offered it to me for $650 AUS...

WOOHOO!!

From VVT to VV on first mod, open up entire tone on solo stock neck pup (13.4K ohm )and bridge pup (10.7K ohm). But sound a bit plastic when blend together and din't found notable treble mix well in the P pup while bridge volume within 50%-80%, just tone changing.
When dial back some amount on neck pup when bridge pup run in full volume, i can get nice Stingray-ist voice.

Swap the stock pup with Fender PV63P (12K ohm), both EA string sound worst than stock pup when blend.

Lastly put the cheap Wilkinson WPB pup (8.8k ohm) on it along with Volume/Blend control mod (MN 250K blend pot), the blend tone (both pup run ) sound more forward Jazz bass-ist character without unbalance EA and DG voice compare to early 2 mod. Meanwhile, i able get notable treble zing mix in when the blend knob set between middle blend <> neck pup position without tone changing which happens on first mod.
No unbalance solo volume issue between 8.8k neck pup vs 10.7k bridge pup. The neck pickups height setting just like my others P bass.

When only bridge pup solo, the tone lost some top end, low mid become beefy compare to both earlier mod. Weird.
When full neck solo, i still can hear some hum from bridge pup. Hum gone once i disconnected the bridge hot wire.
Does this happens because blend pot ?
I can't dial out the Stingray-ist voice anymore even how i tweak the blend knob. Dial back the knob from middle point a bit to bridge side, i only get thick and solid low mid J voice.

Entire tone are pretty different compare to few PJ bass i been play, but she sound more a like Cort Action DLX active bass i been own but not blanket bass tone.
Luckily me when full neck solo, she still sound close to my Vintera 50s P (both strung Ti flat).

Is there an admin giving out numbers?
The last admin I'm aware of resigned this thread in 2017. Don't think anyone else assumed the mantle. I certainly wouldn't want the responsibility!!

(If you expand the quote, there's a list of members to that date. Pick up there, maybe?)

Attention fellow PJ loyalists,

It's been an honor to be the PJ Club List Administrator but alas, I must resign and pass the baton to the next leader of this small but mighty club.

I do not have a nomination for my replacement, the spot is now open to the first willing individual.

Below is the complete member list and rules as I have maintained and defined them during my tenure.

Please carry on with the posting of pics and exchange of ideas.

Thanks!

Pro II on the right modded to be like it's inspiration (Tony Franklin signature) on the right. Great electronic layout of the TF along with the better everything else of the Pro II. Match made in heaven.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's modded a bass to mirror the specs of a signature model. In my case, I had a Mighty Mite body routed in the fashion of a Fender Reggie Hamilton Standard Jazz. In my opinion, it's the best P-pup placement on a Jazz bass. The Drop-D tuner ain't too shabby neither.

I think I can join here. Most of my basses are P/J-

_DSC0733.jpg

1990 JP-90- pickups are a bit dirty, but plays amazingly

_DSC0800.jpg

2017 Aerodyne- My sweat made the nickel hardware rust really badly, so I replaced it with black hardware instead.

Performer with a bridge upgrade, nothing fancy

Special deluxe rewired to V/V instead of V/V/T

Frankie. Squier/Fender Frankenstein with a bunch of work put into it.
