HA! Get married..not just a girlfriend, lump all your money together into one account, buy a house/cars/whatever with large monetary commitments, and have kids....then....you will be saying the same thing. Now, my wife is supportive, but things just "show up" in my band room. If Im challenged, I say, "oh Ive had that for a long time!"

Agreed. Maybe the key word is 'wife' vs 'girlfriend'? ;) I know mine cheers on NBD even when I'm clearly not prioritizing in a practical manner

Sure, I'm not arguing the details; more the "numb-nuts newb" attitude towards someone who probably just stumbled on the site with a shiny bass in hand, breathless with excitement. /exaggeration

Well, you are right, there is no need to be a dick about it to the newbies, but I've seen member who state in their post that they didn't use the search engine and aren't going to. Basically they are saying, "I'm too lazy to search, you do it for me."

As it happens, I teach online and have done so for years. Perhaps that's one reason I expect people to exert just a TINY BIT of energy to find an answer before running off and asking others when the info is free to access.

I don't make an effort to be unkind, but I believe that part of the purpose of forums is to help people learn to help themselves - hence, a suggestion to search or do research on the forum before asking is not inappropriate.

As an aside, I think that this is most common among younger members of the forum who are less patient and haven't yet learned to do their homework before asking. That lesson needs to be presented to them.

my "freshman year" of talkbass i was told to do a search for most posts i made even though i did search and couldn't find the answer. i'm not sure if you get that response when others see your join date.

so, my "sophmore year" i started every new thread with, "after doing a search, i am still in need of advice for..."
