the irritating response more on the DB side is, "every bass, string, amp, player, ear, tone, whatever is different for each person"

"Use your ears" in the Tablature forum gets my vote.
I'm really irritated with "It's all in your hands" because It's not, It's more than that.
The answer is "any reply that uses the word guitard." It's offensive, childish, and needlessly mean-spirited. Anyone older than 14 should know better.

What makes this site great is the sense of comaraderie, the tremendous wealth of knowledge that people are willing to share, the friendliness to newbies, a great classified section, and the running jokes (best bass for metal, Mothman, post-your-bass-face threads, etc.). "Guitard" is an ugly word and contributes nothing.

My favorite to hate is "serve the song." Since there is no objective criteria which will allow you to definitively determine if you are 'serving' the song, it all boils down to opinion. It's just another way to say, "Play it the way I say it should be played." People use this phrase in order to appear to have some authoritative source for their opinion. Sorry to break it to you but your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's.
I hate when people are asking perfectly reasonable questions about young noblemen acting as attendants to knights before becoming knights themselves and they spell squire incorrectly.

Some replies my be irritating but they are not unhelpful (learn to do your own setup).
I voted for the "ask my wife" option. You really don't know how you make yourself and marriage appear if you have to ask for permission to make a grown up decision. And yes, I've been married. You know how your finances are. You know the discussions, plans and promises you made with your mate about your budget. STOP using them as an excuse. I see that in music stores as well. You knew a Ken Smith was out of the question before you picked it up. Then you tell the associate, "well I gotta tawk to my wife and see what see says". That's the same thing as asking a woman can we go out some time and her reply is, "I don't think my boyfriend would like that".

Mis-using the OP's sincere post as a spotlighted vehicle for one's own self-indulgent humor or self-expression. Perhaps this is the forum-participation equivalent of on-stage noodling without sufficient regard for the audience experience and training/expertise in the tools of the trade.
