Glad to see you are sticking with your original choice. I think the the redwood is more "classic" looking (more subtle, anyway), but I have always had a soft spot in my heart for burls.

And, like you said, I've seen better examples of flamed redwood, too. Not that that one is boring, but I like the burst over burl thing that MTD does so well.

Congrats!

That's silly.

Nothing "cheaper" about poplar aka tulipwood than Ash, Alder, etc.

Poplar was on Zon Legacy elite's (their most expensive bass) and on MTD's which are pricier still.

It does have a repututation for being a cheap quality wood, even though the tonal properties are very similar to alder. I am not sure where the reputation came from. After all, if Ernie Ball, MTD and Zon use it, it can't be junk.

I think as long as it insn't Balsa I am fine with Tulipwood, which is a FORM of poplar, but I don't think it is the same type as the ones on some of the cheaper guitars.

I prefer the swirly burly one.

I got yer flamed redwood for ya (BassNorthwest):

PD,

The amber burl looks absolutely stunning. If I were buying an MTD (one day, one day) that would be the one.

Rockandroller,

(forgive the phonetic spelling)

Peace,

heheheh - yer russian is better than mine, i've been here almost a year, and i can just barely say 'ya ne govaru pa russki' ( i say that one a lot!)

my patience for studying that twisted langugae is 'ochen ne minoga'

i have a LOT more compassion now for all the people who have to deal with a 'second language'

Since my new MTD hasn't actually shipped yet, I wanted to get the opinions of TB'ers.

I saw this other MTD bass on Bass Central's website. This bass also looks nice, but I a not sure which I like better, the amber one I chose with the burled maple top or this other beauty.

The body is avadore with a flamed redwood top.
