They are all playing and the singer is actually singing. That's a live rock show to me. Backing tracks keep them from having to bring a keyboard player or two on the road. That type of money would be drain and wouldn't add much to the show.
Keyboard players have to make a living too!
I recall once seeing Duran Duran on a TV appearance where the keyboardist had everything programmed into a MacBook Pro. He didn't have any keyboards on stage, just the laptop. It was kind of a neat gimmick.

Yeah, I was in a band that did some of that stuff in the early 80s. After we'd done it a few times, the cool new factor kind of faded.

If guitars are important, a tour hires guitar techs. If drums are important, they hire drum techs.If you’ve got a critical element for any show, then you need idiot-proof backup. The most pathetic thing here—and I’ll bypass the main discussion point in this thread—is that two missing laptops could derail an entire show.
You’d think if laptops are important that they would hire a salty IT pro as their laptop tech. This tech would have it all setup so they could provision a new laptop in an hour, or two at most.
Servers are cattle, not pets.
well, there you go! my daddy, god rest his soul, thought it was a gas that i played any kind of music --- big supporter!also, it's possible that i'm way more open-minded about such things as music/arts than you are. i write and arrange and i use all the current popular forms/sounds as inspiration. FWIW: i'm a big supporter of music in all of its forms and genres and i regularly blast old wannabes and posers for being judgemental about "new" music/stuff.
they've forgotten, "adapt or perish." hope you haven't!

Back in the 1990s my classic rock band opened a show for John Kay and "Steppenwolf." They had no bass player. The band played to some sort of pre-recorded track that seemed to include click and all the bass.
I don't know how many folks noticed the absence of the guy with the "long guitar." But I was weirdly depressed all night.
Love how cranky, jealous, and downright clueless so many of you are. Keep it up.
It is a bit odd that they rely so much on a laptop, but.....the thing I find the most stupid is that their announcement says "Blame it on our crew, I guess" - That right there is about the stupidest thing you can ever do as a band - you depend on the efforts of your crew every night, throwing them under the bus when you lost your laptop is not going to help - ever. If any of your crew has a shred of self respect, you're very likely to lose a very competent person (or several) from that blunder.
That there's no singer but just a recorded track of the vocals is even more noticeable and strange. Kinda karaoke. Yet Fernando's massive groove saves it, at least for the bass players in the audience.

I'm definitely more judgemental about music than you seem to be. My opinion is my own though, I don't push it on others as any kind of truth, if rock or EDM or jazz doesn't do it for you then luckily something else does. The only exception is the guy who posted about his wife not liking any music, that just can't be redeemed
