I've come to learn that when someone drops a match in a pile of leaves, it will usually start a fire. You see something happen enough times, it starts to make sense. Take away the outlet for a forum with tens of thousands of members to talk about off topic subjects, and a lot of them will find their way into the other forums.

It's also strange how many have said that we could just do away with post counts altogether....but didn't mention it prior to the idea of OT posts won't be counted anymore. It's starting to look kind of like an "if I can't have it then no one should" thing.

Out of all of the regulars on all of the forums here, I wonder which forum has the highest percentage of posters that are supporting members. I would wager that OT would be in the top 3 or 4 (excluding the forums where you must be a supporting member to post or start threads).

We used to have post counts visible right below your join date. There was a big run of people just posting to boost their post count for a while that led to it being only viewable on the profile.

We all have equal rights here. My posts in OT won't count, yours won't count, no one's will. OT is not a person. Nothing is being taken away from anyone that isn't being taken away from EVERYONE. It's not an equal rights thing in even the remotest sense. Name one right that is being taken from you that is not being taken from everyone else as well.

I think that is just because the pot got stirred by site administration.
Many people seem to take offense in the measure and the way the announcement was made. More in the tone of the announcement than the measure itself.
(I agree with you on the mancards here.)

I agree with everything you said so far in this dicussion Bryan. We all have different perspectives... so I don't want to insult anyone who has a different standpoint.

Prior to the new rule postcounts were tucked away very well (unlike on many other forums as mentioned). You have to click on a members profile to see it.
I don't know if many check profiles regulary. I surely don't do it much. My opinion on a certain members is based on the more posts I read from him/her and that stick by me for future reference.
When I check a profile, it's usually for troublesome things like: "is this guy for real?"

So with it being tucked away, the postcount, prior to this I also think we can get rid of it all togheter.
Have a clean sweep, create a status quo. Would help equality and would help see the quality of a member more than the quality. (IMO)


What I don't understand is this talk about "value" and "worthlessness" of posts. :eyebrow:
It seems like it is some kind of paycut for some.

BTW... where can I cash in my 4000+ posts? Or should I wait until they increase in value?


If you want your post to be rated then post it on youtube.


I still see that every post is equal, although not valued or worthless. Just because certain posts don't trigger a counter in the software doesn't mean it's an inferior.

No it doesn't. But it's a cash cow whether you like it or not. Revenue is generated by the number of eyeballs viewing the ads in OT, not to mention contribution for membership by the posters themselves. But if you create policy that can be interpreted as crapping on the people that help generate said revenue stream, then eventually the people will just stop contributing to said revenue stream. No one like being crapped on. Personally, I contribute to this site because of OT. I'm a bassplayer, but I really enjoy the tight-nit community and friendships that have come from OT. I contribute to support the infrastructure that creates the forum to allow this. Personally, I feel that if this is how they appreciate my contribution then I might as well just stop contributing and experience this site as a non paying member.
