Post Your '51-55 Precision or Tele-inspired bass

My latest creation, inspirerad by the Fender Dusty Hill signature bass. Mine's got a fatter neck and an additional SCPB in series with the original one.

The sound is very much in line with Dustys signature "farting in a trash can" and it pushes my amp into a gnarly growl when the second pickup is activated.

Ebay Pallet Slab w/ Squier 50's CV neck and a Squier 50's CV w/ Babicz bridge. Both have the SD Custom Shop Stinger Stack Pickups. Both sound and play fantastic.

Ebay Semi-hollow Pallet Slab body, Ebay Jazz Neck, cut-down w/ EMG P, Babicz Bridge and Custom Pickguard.
I call it "The Crooked-Ass Bass" It's very light and with the thin neck, it gets a lot of love.

I've never been a fan of Telecaster basses but recently I've gotten back into P-basses so it occurred to me that in my 50+ years of playing bass I should buy a Telecaster style bass. Not wanting to spend a lot of money on a bass that I'm not particularly fond of I searched for and found this gal. Bought a set of chrome bridge and pickup covers for it to give it more of a retro look, now I just have to put them on.

This is a surprisingly good bass for the money and I like the Lake Placid Blue with the white p/g and Maple neck. It's a good combo.

It IS a fun bass! I put a MIM Cabronita neck w/reverse tuners, Cabronita bridge, SD quarter pounder and pearly bits and now I'm done. It gets regular rotation.

If your going for that dirty Dusty Hill tone you may want to go Stacked or run a noise gate, at least that's been my experience. You may get by on most stages but, when you end up on that really noisy stage it's very frustrating.
I finally broke down and spent the $150 and got the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Stinger Stacked SCPB Pickup. They are amazing and totally different tone from the previous 3 I've tried with no feedback or noise, even with loads of gain/distortion. It actually sounds a lot like a Hot Split Coil pickup. Both mine is rippin Hot at 31.2 K and 32.2 K. It's obvious to me now why Dusty Hill and Sting use it. I have the Stinger stack in both my Single Coil P Basses and use a Push/pull to cut the bottom coil to get the Thumping single coil sound and a 10 db boost if the room/stage allows. Well worth the $$ and I wish I'd have tried it in the beginning but, no I had to ceap out and learn the hard way.

I first heard this pickup in a custom Wilkins I had and fell in love with it . I put one in my Warmoth 32" sc . It's got the right stuff.

Fender Japan Paisley. Harley Benton PB-50 with Peavey super ferrie. Pine slab,built last December. Re-fin PB-50 with Fender/Wilkinson hardware and Herrick custom split coil. Another PB-50, Herrick alnico 5 and tapes. Paisley re-fin PB-50, Jess Louerio split coil . Squier TB with Chi-Sonic.
