Personally I prefer the look of the slab. Reckon the belly cut reduces weight,my 5 belly cuts average 9.5lb while the slab is 10+lb. Should point out I used 1 7/8ths pine for the slab body,belly cuts are closer to 1 1/2".
Comfort-wise I don't notice any difference. 30" waist with no belly to speak of keeps the slab pretty close to me and I've noticed my forearm rests in the same place on both body styles. If there's a difference in tone it's passed me by
Next build will be another pine slab. Should I gain weight the slab can be carved for comfort.

Just a data point. I've lost 50lbs in the last 18-ish months which reduced my waist 6 inches. For me the slab has always been comfortable. I guess I never did need a belly cut body.
I prefer a Slab because I wear my Basses slung pretty low and they look so cool, IMO.
I can definitely understand a player preferring the contours if they prefer the Bass slung high.
Here is my latest Slab Build. I couldn't afford a Fender Custom Shop Dusty Hill Signature so I put together my own Copy for less than $600. Includes the Seymour Duncan "Stinger" Stacked SCPB Pickup & Babicz Bridge. It only weighs 7 lb 14 oz. The large rear control cavity really helped with the weight.
I got to play it at rehearsal last night and it is completely Bad-Ass, IMO.

How does the Nordstrand pickup sound? Surprisingly few people seem to have tried it.
I know! There were no online demos for it, so I went with reputation and wanted something a little different anyway. I like it, though I can't truly compare it to an original '51 single coil pu. With cavity shielding, it really is very quiet.
That's good to hear. I was just asking because Nordstrands description on the website isn't exactly illuminating.
Bits and pieces and a Chinabucker. Looks good, feels good, sounds good.
'05 CIJ '51 RI and '11 Modern Player Telecaster.
I modded my Squire '51 P with a pu from an Ibanez ATK. Put it more towards the bridge than the original pu to get more 'growl' out of it. To cover the hole from the original pu, I put a 'ramp' on it which also serves as a thumbrest. The controls are v-t-coil switch.
What is that bass actually? A relic or 60's Tele body and string ferrules? Some 50's P bass parts? Pickguard no thumb rest hole(s), some slot screws.
Can't remember if I've posted this one before but if so, here it is again.Custom made body, Chinese-order neck (square heel) @Zhangbucker Tele pickup. '51 circuit from Angela. There's a pine tug bar on it now. I guess I really need to get the transfer redone, just for appearances sake.
