Post your old Jazz Basses

Late 60’s with replacement neck

A '69 on the right, factory stock except for the Badass II bridge. Have original bridge in the original case (Purchased at Ed's Guitars in Miami circa 1979)

A '71 on the left. Purchased from Thoroughbred Music during the early 80's. Had it refinished and swapped in Alembics. It was already a P/J conversion with the neck altered to a fretless.

This is a 1964 also bought from Thoroughbred around the same time. Had it refinished in tobacco sunburst and had EMG's installed.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. What pickups are you going with?
Thanks man 🙏 I’m planning to have Duncan NYC pickups put in as I’m interested in having soapbar-type pickups that can be wired for different modes (series, parallel and single coil) to be as versatile as possible. Will require quite a bit of routing, naturally, but it’ll definitely be worth it once it’s all done up nicely.

Would love to see pics of your knobs.
Yeah I need to trot my bass out and share. Worth noting - Fender still uses more or less the same knobs introduced back in ‘62, so the proper ones for your bass can be found anywhere J-bass control knobs are sold. The binding + dots with lollipop tuners is the combo of features unique to that small late ‘65 window of transition to blocks in mid-‘66.

During my early pre-slab days, probably 1985. A '71 Jazz w/ a glorious bound/ block neck. Had it painted white, the brass [I assume aftermarket] pick guard my dad chrome plated, & white pickup covers. Even then I couldn't help but employ some mods.

Later I bought a '69 Jazz in sunburst. Temporarily replaced the neck w/ my '55 P bass during a refret. The '71 was much better sounding & playing than the '69. But as you can see my slab days were starting to take hold.

Yes. Here’s a picture of the replacement knobs I bought from Fender. They look pretty damn close to what came originally on this bass I think.
