I'm just getting started putting mine together. Ableton, Focusrite 18i6, Behringer FCB1010, Akai LPD8, M-Audio 61-key keyboard. Still need a mic and electric guitar. I've been playing bass for 23 years, but this is my first foray into home recording. Having a blast so far!

I just downloaded my upgrade from X1Producer to X2. Thinking of holding my nose and jumping into the deep end of the Roland ecosystem by ordering a Roland Studio Capture to replace my Edirol M16DX interface. Keep on reading good things about the Capture series interfaces. It would allow me to divest of my Allen and Heath Mix Wiz mixer that I was using for the preamps and monitoring.

Well I went ahead and sold my outboard mixer and Edirol M16 DX interface and ordered a Roland Studio Capture. I' m still,sorting through my Sonar X2 upgrade but I noticed right away that the Studio Capture was significantly better sounding than my M16 DX. More transparent, ability to hear into the mix, hearing more of the trailing edges of reverbs, with the same monitors. Didn't expect that but pleased.

What I did expect was for the install to work well, and Roland didn't disappoint, glitch free 9 ms latency and no drama with the driver.

Here's the current iteration of my little studio.

Many moons ago I had a Focusrite Platinum Trakmaster. It had a truly mediocre preamp. I hear and read lots of good things about the newer models though, and I seriously considered going Focusrite with my recent interface upgrade.

In retrospect I should have kept the Trakmaster (the original series) as I thought it was a dynamite, full- featured DI. Would have been killer for live use.

Damn, I dont even know where to begin. My brother and I are finishing construction on our studio in about two weeks. MMR studios (Macro Mellon Recording) is a 2000 sf facility. Our large live room is 36 x 32 with 12' ceiling height. Our control rooms are 17x16 each and have the ability to track and mix in both. We also feature a complete dead room and 2 amp vaults. Versatility is the name of game here. We have an extensive gear list including 32 tracks of analog on 1/2" fostex units with authentic Roger Nichols sync units and Big Time units. Control room A uses two Yamaha 32/10 consoles. We have a 1978 large frame Tascam console currently being customized with Neve Caps, Pres and Eq's. Control room B currently has two customized Mackie 32-8's for a console. We run Pro-tools 8-10, Sonar, Cubase 6, Nuendo 4.9 and have too much software plug ins to list, extensive dosnt even begin to cover it. We also master to 1/4" analog as well as itb. Mics include Audix, Audio Technica, Sure, MXL, as well as local custom made ribbons and LDC's made here in denver. Vintage gear including 2 custom drum sets, (pearl and tama) Several vintage 1960's cymbals, authentic 1960 Marshall full stack, early 60's silvertone, 1974 fender jazz bass, and my setup listed in my sig. Outboard gear including Focusrite, Ballarie, Tapco (Early Mackie), Alesis, DBX, Yamaha, ART, and adding daily. We have DigiDesign 888 converters (72 ins), Echo Layla 3-g converters, M-Audio Delta 1010 converters and MOTU converters (72 ins). We are capable of recording at 24-96k and usually do so. The 888's are 24-48k. We use 2 macs that are extensively modified as well as 2 windows based servers with 6 core AMD based systems. for our ITB needs.

We founded the idea of the studio on being able to economically record music in a vintage setting or with modern recording techniques or both, in a warm friendly environment. Built and ran by musicians for musicians. Ill shoot pics up tomorrow.

This is my little corner of the world. I do mostly project work, but also run my own small label for one-off's, friends' bands and random stuff.

pretty basic, but I have enough decent preamps and mics that I can get some good sounds from my Tascam 38 1/2" tape machine.
80's era Yamaha board with upgraded preamps in 8 of the 16 channels.
It never crashes, never needs a reboot, upgrade, ilok, firewire, usb and anything I put into it always sounds better coming out.
I'm all hardware, no software.

I'm not going to edit the take, you are just going to play it again until you get it right.
