Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to a traditionalist (Fender disciple), this would be ugly as sin! Especially all the extra strings....

Old Ibby RD-707 with the horns reshaped a and the P route filled and routed for a J - poorly. I think it's on it's third different paint job.
I think the official colour of my bass from the Fender factory in 1974 was "Poo Brown". Not the best looking bass to say the least.
That's totally weird and not my thing.... But not ugly IMO. Maybe "avant garde" and a bit out there?
Had a seymour duncan quarter pounder hanging around and decided to build a bass around it. Yes it is ugly but I truly love it.

Yeah, 20yrs ago I wouldn't touch anything but a 4 string... Then I went to 5ers, now 6 strings and this...yup I'm totally 'out there' !
I went outside the box and someone came and recycled it! LOL
Tastes change for sure. I played "normal looking" 4 sterling Fenders and MusicMan basses for almost 25 years.
Now? "Coffee table" 5ers everywhere. I didn't know what spalted mango, Myrtle and ceruse finishs even were a few years ago. Now I own basses with all of these!
Yard sale find yesterday. Pretty dang ugly but actually plays and sounds pretty good. Needs new strings but everything else seems to work. Is there any way to clean the gold plating without removing it. It's almost like a crust on it that wont come off with just a rag. I tried never dull on the neck joint plate and the gold came right off. If not I will just polish it all silver.

The Warwick Corvette I picked up used a couple of months back has similar wear on the pups, but not to the degree yours does. Impressive!
The warden named this one Fugly. It is the only bass she has told me NOT to sell.

EDIT: You can't clearly see the burn marks on the upper horn or on the pickups, but they look horrible. This thing also played horribly, had a really uncomfortable neck profile and uneven frets, but after the pickup swap (Nordstrand mm4.2 wired vol series/parallel) it sounded killer. After a re-spray, neck swap and pre-amp addition it sounds and looks killerer

Is there anybody out there that can get on topic? Haven't seen a truly ugly one yet. We have some with too much eye makeup, some missing front teeth, and one multi-stringed obese guitar posing as a bass, but nothing awesomely homely. Does anyone have one that's uglier than Cinderella's step sisters? One that no one wants to touch because it looks diseased.
