Power amp loudness?

y? im ever so curious as to why you would pray for some one based upon thier child who has given you a great argument in which you have learned something and for at least i have but if it because you are such person who after confronting me about some that i said well after apoligizing if i insulted some one did i not and doth thou insult me by saying that i am crazy and you shalt pray for my parents well to you i say good day for you questioned my reason and you got your response wilst i try to remain as polite as so i may get your response as honest as i may choose to believe but never did i expect this

So today I finally got my Carvin DCM1500 in the mail, and I was excited to try it out, thinking that 1500 watts bridged should just blow away the 200 watt thing I was using before. With this in mind, I was dismayed to find that, for some reason, my Carvin is QUIETER than my other 200 watt thing! (a GK rb400 head) I'm sure I must be doing something wrong...Whenever I turn the power up on my Carvin power amp or Trace Elliot GP11 preamp, the Carvin starts clipping like crazy.

Could it be my speakers? I'm using a GK 4x10 and 1x15. It doesn't seem like they could be the problem, though, because before them I had a yorkville 2x10 combo that was just as loud as my whole GK rig.

Could it be some sort of clash between the ohm ratings or various things? I don't really know how that stuff works...just thinking about it.

Any advice you guys have would be much appreciated. I've got some big shows coming up and I need to get this sorted out! Thanks!

Hey Naggon, how's the weather up there in BC? I would contact Carvin and see what they have to say. It sounds like you do have a problem with the amp and since they build 'em they should know what's up.

You are weird.

Trying to say something about the topic, I don't know if it's the same on your Carvin, but on my QSC if I bridge, I have to keep Channel 2 all the way low, otherwise turning channel 2 up actually causes the amp to be quieter.

You have witnessed first-hand that watts DO NOT equal volume.

Volume is determined by speaker size, efficiency, number, etc. Watts are just a measure of the amps ability to do work aka move your speakers. Just because you've got 2000 watts going to a cabinet, doesn't mean you'll hear 2000 watts coming out of it. If it's a 500 watt cabinet, you'll more than likely fry it.

As far as the clipping goes...rearrange your EQ settings first, then maybe check your connections and then your preamp. If all else fails, have the power amp checked out by Carvin or whoever.

you know what ill save my time and state of mind and just stick with the thread but know this it will all make sense to those who wish to believe, those who know of what i am saying, those who frequent the forums that i do, and those who finally figure it out but until then i say salut unto you who are quick to judge one whom you do not know i send my sorrow to Naggon for i have with out intention taken a good bit of this thread by saying that i think that something is purdy funny to me now for the third or fourth time sorry for those of whom i may have offended

Try using a comma or period in your posts. By the way, isn't it past your bedtime? To the original post: Do you have the speakon cable wired correctly for bridge mode (inside the amp end of the cable) ?

As I said last night to one of your posts......huh? Sounds something like the beginning of Maiden's Number of the Beast. Not sure if that was the effect you were going for though.

Did you ever learn how to read, write, and/or do math?  :hmm: :o :ninja:

What do you think? You know I am quite capable at doing such things. It really makes me wonder why people post such asinine questions. Don't you think that if I couldn't read or write i would not be posting in forums? Or attempting to do something I supposedly do not have the skill to do?

Man! You guys are brutal! I sort of feel bad for Naggon, all he did was ask a pretty common question and all hell breaks loose. I'm no moderator, but I believe all this jabbin' back and forth BS could be done by PM's. Just my take on the matter...

Hey Naggon, did you get a hold of Carvin? I think we would all like to hear what they thought.

Well, given the limited replies Naggon has issued, I really can't say any more about solving the problem than I already did.

And forums serve multiple purposes. If someone is issuing spurious claims about someone else's product design there is certainly nothing wrong with attempting to correct their misconceptions or pointing them toward some reading that would educate them on those misconceptions. Doing it in public where they first issued their equipment diss helps set the record straight, and in the bargain supplies anyone else reading with the opportunity to learn and understand more.
