Pre-CBS Fender Basses.. Let's See Em

Here are my two:
1) a '64, stripped and stained way back when; bridge pick-up rewound by Jim Rolph...all else original. Has Sadowsky flats on it now.

2) a '66 transition era that has a funky route under the non-original guard; '70s bridge pick-up, refin'd white from sunburst, and I added the Audere for more control, but am thinking about removing it and running through a Sadowsky outbound instead. It's very light and bright. Very funky.

Both have very low action and sound great. I play soul, funk, and rock and occasionally gig out with the white J, but usually play either a Sadowsky UV70 or Hybrid PJ out...the basses in my avatar. I'm in a 9 piece band and we often play on a small stages and collide a lot. I'd hate to see any damage happen to these babies.

I play the Fiesta 1960 mostly. But I do play the 59 occasionally. I took it to a bar gig a few weeks ago.

The times I have gigged with my '63, my old '69 Jazz and even my '73 Precision I would get guys wanting to see it up close, play it or buy it. I was so nervous about the whole thing I would even take them to restroom with me. I could hardly relax.

The Sadowsky? nobody even gives it a second look since they think it's a cheap knockoff.

Just curious, do you guys play these out?

Absolutely! The Fender Road Worns, and all the other 'relics' out there, have taken the heat off of the vintage working basses. No one thinks you'd be crazy enough to bring a vintage bass (in my case - my '59) to a bar, so they pretty much ignore it. It was made to be played! (and it plays sooo nicely!)

I was at Musicstore Köln last Friday, and they had this:

Left is a '78 P so it doesn't count, but the right one is a '63 P and it looked 100% original. And it was not for sale
