No, it's a Ford color from the color charts around 1972. Not too different from the Shoreline Gold that Fender offered, though. That's actually very much in keeping with Leo's approach - all his colors were automotive paints from various lines, but mostly GM and Chrysler.

The F-Hole body............

I had a bass like that in 94-95... it was fretless, I tried epoxying the neck and used the wrong type of epoxy, and had to strip it off, then had to sand down the fingerboard... kinda F'ed it up... (I was 14 what do you expect a kid to do with no internet to reference!)...

Anyway, I ended up selling it... (it had a very distinguishable cigarette burn on it near the upper horn). A couple of years ago I found it on ebay! Somewhere down the line, someone tried putting on some metal adjustable bridge and a J bridge pickup... butchered it to hell, but I still wanted it! little did I know, while I was bidding on it, my girlfriend was also bidding on it as a surprise, AND someone else was bidding on it! The third person bidding ended up winning it...

what is the big fascination about old basses, especially fenders? i mean aside from being antique and kind of rare (not really) why would you want a '60 instead of a '08 bass? (aside from monetary value) i mean lets face it there is no way the manufacturing technology (tolerances, construction and design techniques, material quality, etc...) was better in the sixties than it is now, especially with electronics. plus with 40+ years of use and abuse, its only natural that things warp and degrade over time (especially with elecronics due to corrosion and such). i would take a new j over an old one anyday, much better in my opinion

The old ones frequently sound better. Somehow, they mellow with age, and sound better than a new bass. Many also play better than a newer bass.

You don't have to buy one if you don't see it this way- it's cool.

VERY cool! Call me crazy, but sometimes I like to see these "hacked" up or refinished ones more than the pristine ones...assuming you got it for a great price. Looks like quite the player.

Love your P bass!! Thanks for the compliment on my J. I don't think your crazy at all, I too think the Hacked up ones are fun to look at. They show all the love they have received. I paid $1,000 for it and it sounds better than any bass I've played.
