Here's an old picture with my '60 pre. For all the 'purists' I kept the original tort guard, pick-up and controls intact. I also didn't cut into the body, but taped the battery for my active pick-ups on the side. On a side note, this bass was stolen from my apartment about 5 years ago. A very sad day. Insurance covered me well, but it felt like losing a member of the family, and had the bass since '78.

Just a point of interest : I remember the term "ashtray" was originally the name given to the snap on cover for the bridge on the early Strats.
