Thanks! The '57 belonged to Atlanta Rhythm Section bassist Paul Goddard, and J.R.Cobb before that. Paul recorded the first 3 ARS albums with it, and used it for studio work with Roy Orbison, Joe South and the Classics IV and many others as well, so it has some nice history. Paul switched to a Ric 4001, and later got an endorsement deal from Peavey, and put the '57 up for sale and I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time (in the early '80's)...would you believe $750?

I just found this old photo of me and my '60 P in action.

The Kustom "tuck n roll". I bought a 1962 Kustom 2X15 about 6 years ago for $100.00, practically mint condition. Still sounds good!

Paul Goddard + Pbass + SVT = Holy Grail I'm also in Atlanta,When I first heard Paul I knew that was the sound I wanted.

this '63 is almost totally original.
it had a very good refin many years ago
the ashtrays are modern but aged and the screws for the pup cover tray aren't original; otherwise every thing is the real deal.

EDIT: just realised this old photo doesn't have the ash trays on anyway!
I've since muted under the bridge with foam, put on Roto flatwounds and remounted the ashtrays - Motown ahoy!

That's lovely... there's very little original left on mine... strap buttons, neck, neckplate, scratchplate, some of the scratchplate screws and control plate and knobs. The rest has been swapped out/thrown/given away.! Oh dear!

It will become a restore project when/if I get some funding, otherwise I'll just play it to pieces, it's my fave gigger.

Just because it isn't "original" doesn't mean it's not "beautiful".

Seriously - that is one of my favorite basses in the world - just beautiful, and it has a long history attached to it, instead of just being a "case inhabitant". I wouldn't change a thing if I were you - except maybe strings every couple years if they were needed...

In any case, here's my 1963 P-bass with 1972 neck. Fender-obsessed people, STOP TRYING to tell me that it's a '72 because of the headstock decal!!!! I've owned it since 1967, had it re-painted Ford Gold Metallic around 1970-72, and the truss rod in the neck broke about 1972 and I had to install a new neck because I had a gig in 48 hours. The neck plate SN dates the bass itself to 1963.

The patina on those covers is nothing less than soul soothing. I feel a little purified from just looking at them.
