This is the bass I am going to learn on. Oh, I will play it. When I get it cleaned I will probably do nasty things to it.
The owner had no idea how awesome it is. Said $100 would've been fine for it. All original. Has been stored away and forgotten since the 60's. It's a beautiful instrument and I cannot believe my luck, that finally some of my "useless music trivia" would come to use.

It needs to be cleaned, but it's like new. It took me forever to find ONE like it online with no replacement parts - I still can't believe someone would pay 19k for a bass. And that one had scratches and dents.
He has a Fender Strat too, 58 or 59 - he can't remember. The paint is belt worn a little on the back and then scratched up in the front.

Hmph. It is unbelievable. Now your reaction makes me even more happy. Got a new case today for it - just got the bass on friday night, the other case had mildew in it. I kept asking if it was all original and he was getting mad, saying it'd play just like the new ones they make today. lol

What can I say? Grandpa didn't get it until I explained it's like an old classic car. I told him to take it back, sell it or whatever. He asked if I would sell it - I want to keep it.
And those poor guys at the guitar store, I know it killed them to hear from him that he was just giving it to me to learn on. But, he'd let them take pictures of his Strat in dirty poses so he can sell it.

Seriously - that is one of my favorite basses in the world - just beautiful, and it has a long history attached to it, instead of just being a "case inhabitant". I wouldn't change a thing if I were you - except maybe strings every couple years if they were needed... :D

Cheers DH... that's chuffed me! It was a case inhabitant for quite a while, until I had the brainwave of removing the frets and dropping in the J-Retro!

1962 Precision - Jazz PU added (both PU's wired 100% tone), neck & body refinished, different knobs, but all else is original. I have the original bridge in the (60's) case too, but I like the way the BAII plays better, so I leave it on there.

Got it for $950 on Good Friday of this year from a guy on Craigslist.
