Precision people, how would you rate this one, looks-wise?

I've been wanting an AV '63 for a looong time. But I want to make sure I get the right one! And they definetly don't come up often on sale where I live.
8.8lbs with both covers is lighter than the 9.2lbs AMstd I have (and will immediately sell if I get this one -it's weight the main reason I don't want to bother modding it with a new pickup & covers), I don't think I'll be able to find a much lighter one anytime soon. I mean I could wait, but what if this is the best I'll ever be able to find?
I know it's silly, but I want to find 'the one' that I'll keep until my hands fall off my arms

I love the pickup cover but can't play my AVRI with it on for some reason. As somewhat of a joke, I attached it to my '78 fretless a few months ago (see pic). The previous owner only supplied the original bridge cover. It looks goofy and maybe out of place on a 70s P, but I decided that it's never to come off. I absolutely love playing the fretless P with it on.

8.8 is totally acceptable to me, and I like light basses. Also, I used to hate sunburst and also P's. I have since came to my senses. But, I prefer some yellow in my burst and a Spitfire guard. The '63RI have that yellow (some more than others), which is way nicer than most sunbursts Fender has put out IMO.

Hi there,salutes. I don't know about you, but i fell in love with this one, i love that pick guard, i own a fret-less j with a sunburst and a pick white pick guard, but the tortoise finish is a classic league ,go for it if you... like it. have you played it? if you can, give yourself that advantage. cheers. Rabbit

It's impossible to tell given the (flash?) lighting. The guard's a different shade in each pic. You'd be able to guess better if the pics were taken outdoors in sunlight, but you'd still be guessing until you play it.

That just looks like a classic 'burst P to me. ...which I think is awesome. Even the ones that get the unfortunate moniker of "clown burst", if you step back and look at the whole guitar (bass guitar in this case), it looks pretty good. I have honestly gotten wrapped up in what the bass looks like when pictured on its own a lot. ...but then I will see a similar guitar/bass on a musician that has that same exact finish. ...and it just looks awesome. I am thinking that once you get it and play it, you'll have a whole new perspective on it. The people that see you play it will be more about "that's a cool classic bass" or more specifically "that's a cool old 70's P-bass." Most will just see you playing music. Let the forum people that focus in on something like whether or not this burst is a shade too close to clown burst and come up with whatever snarky comments they have. You just jam out and enjoy your 70's P-bass. :)
