I would not be surprised if there's a 70s AMC in something resembling a burst.

Edit- I think I've seen a CJ in something burst-ey.

Down here we get a lot of top to bottom and bottom to top fades. Black to red is most common but i recently saw a newish GMC that was root beer brown mondo metal flake fading into tangerine then progressively darker orange to a medium brown until it was back to a thin strip of root beer brown mondo flake on the bottom. My first thought was what a bunch of effort wasted on a really goofy looking paint job, but it’s not mine to like or dislike and i’m a ghost flame fanboy so i did appreciate the work required to achieve a rather complicated bit of paintwork.

I absolutely love it!
Sunburst is my favorite color for any guitar or bass.

This is probably due to the fact that as I was growing up in the 1960s, sunburst instruments were what I saw on TV (even though it was black & white) and at block parties and other local shows. I even have a photo from my sister's 1969 wedding with the bass player holding a sunburst jazz bass.
Plus, sunburst finishes ruled the Fender products whenever I went to Sam Ash beginning in the early 1970s.

I also appreciate that sunburst finishes take a little extra TLC ro make.

If the Talkbass community ever presents me with a bass for being the most valuable member please make it sunburst!

It's a classic Precision Bass look! I love it, personally. The black pickguard looks great; if you replaced it with tort or red pearl, that would also look groovy.

Its not a black pg. SB pbasses in those years had tort guards, not black.

I greatly prefer a sunburst over ash to get some good wood grain showing through. Other than that, that P bass get's an A.

I am a P bass guy, but can't deal with those imitation clay dots. Dark dots, dark rooms, and ageing eyes is a recipe for disaster, lol.

The reason why i sold mine!! Could not see the dots on the fretboard.... But, oh my God what a Tone that bass had!!
