pro tools 8 vs 9 (yes i did a search)

hello- as ive posted before, i built a new computer. i was using pro tools mpowered 7.4 on xp pro before. since i am now using win 7 pro, i must choose between upgrading to pt 8 or 9. the price difference is about $200, which isnt that big of a deal, but i was curious what everyone thinks. is pt 9 worth the extra cash?

i intend to use pt with reason. itll mostly be guitars/bass direct, got a couple mics for vocals, and the maudio firewire 1884 ive got has enough inputs to mic a drum kit (if i had another grand or so to buy the necessary mics/cables/stands).

im well aware that i would want to hit a legit studio for quality mics, but for some instruments, direct will be just fine. im not a pro, so maybe i dont need all the options pt 9 has, but, as you can tell, i have no idea which is the better option.

thanks for your help, and have a pleasant day now.

I just bought on mbox. I would have paid the extra money for 9 but my xp machine cannot run it.

My understanding is that 9 will work with any brand of interface and so it seemed to make more sense long term to go with 9. It also has different (better?) plugins.

Yes this is true. PT9 works with any 3rd party interface. For this reason alone its worth the extra money. As far as the plugins being better thats just a matter of opinion. But It also nice not having to rely on proprietary hardware to open up Pro Tools anymore just to mix not to mention using any interface you'd like.
