So wow, this one has been dormant for a while and the only thing I can say is... it's all me and I'm getting back to it.
Firstly, the finish idea has changed from TruOil to an open pore black WB poly. Frankly, I'm a little worried about that as I'm not great at it, but I'm hoping that the fact that it's gonna be basic black makes it easier.
I'll also be sealing it to a degree, so it won't continue to suck finish in.
As you'll see shortly, that decision (while made before I discovered this) will likely prove to be a good thing.
Okay, so where did I leave off...
Did the neck carve, but apparently didn't take a follow up, so I'll do that soon. But the neck is carved.
Pickguard area was next -
Template and practice with some scrap tort (it will be black) -
Why practice? So I can discover things like this before final product -
With that ready and most of the finer details done (body edge rounding, major shaping details), it was ready for mockup -
... and glue up -
This is where the finish change will make more sense. As you can see, the neck mahogany and body mahogany definitely look WAY different when they get finish on them. So unless that was a vibe you like, this would need some coloration.
And so it shall be done.
After the curing of the joints last night, I got rid of most of the extra epoxy and milled out the pickup cavities -
There is still plenty to do before I'd call it "properly shaped up" but it's right back on the path it needs to be.
As for the following picture, if you're overly sensitive to certain things that some find funny, but others may find profane, I urge you to avert your eyes. This is something you can't unsee. And bear in mind, this was the specs on the sheet, I didn't do this to be funny.
