I say this as a former "I'll start off small..." thinker myself. If you spend a significant amount of time in the effects forum then you'll want to start off with a PT-JR at the very least, lol. I actually did start with a JR and 6 days later it was too small . Some food for thought .

I'm exactly opposite. lol

I thought big at the beginning... started with a Pedaltrain Pro. I loaded it up and realized I didn't use a lot of the pedals I had on there, plus it was like lugging around the Death Star. Just too friggin' big! lol I experimented with building my own boards for a while, moved to a Pedaltrain PT1, realized that really the only effects I use are overdrive and envelope, so now my main board my PT Mini.

A very vague and generic answer is that some things sound better in front of (or after) other things. One starting point for ordering is...

- wah
- envelope filter
- compression
- overdrive/distortion/fuzz
- echo/delay
- modulation/pitch shifting
- level(boosters/volume pedals)
- EQ

...and the next five or so people posting after this will tell you why this is all wrong (personally, I put boosters early in my chain, as well as preamp pedals). Best way to find what sounds good to you is to try different setups and go with what sounds best to you.

Something I have discovered from messing around with pedal orders is that one order does not fit all. I found putting distortion before and after an envelope filter both to be usable, depending on the song.

People should consider with a few extra jumper cables you can switch your pedal order on the fly without moving your pedals out of position. Took me a while to realize this concept, coming from the thinking that there is a BEST way of pedal order.

Yep. I remember thee well. I think that I would prefer Bendhy's custom Grey Stache with the gate circuit instead of the oscillation or tone bypass mod. I think that after playing the momster and the Grey Stache, that would be the best of both worlds.

I like the oscillation better than the gate, myself...the gated tone is a little too synth'ish for my taste (one reason why I traded it for the 'Stache).

Picked up a Soumdblox Envelope Filter, and while it's cool as he'll, it just doesn't have a place in my sound. For me envelopes and wahs are often cool in theory but when I get one I just can't seem to fit it into my sound.

Not bad at all, I especially like the Sonic Research tuner. Well that and all of the stuff I have in common- the SP, and the MXR BOD. The MXR analog chorus looks interesting, plenty of knobs to work with- which is a good thing.

I've been pretty pleased with the MXR Analog Chorus. Usually chorus annoys the crap out of me, but the tweakability of this of this pedal makes it super usable.
