I'd like to come back on what you've said though. While you may believe at the end of the day, that I am inferior, and while you may also believe that IS the true world, you believing it doesnt make it true for anyone but yourself, and a single's man opinion isnt worth much.
I was being ironically disrespectful - I would have thought somebody as "switched on" as you, would have realised that long ago!!
Context is everything!![]()
I'm not sure if I can accurately express what I want to say, but damn it I'm going to try!
In my opinion, one man's opinion is worth the world - to that one man. And at the end of the day, if 7 billion people in the world each have their own, unique opinions, then all 7 billion people are right. And at the same time, the other 6,999,999,999 people are wrong. So very, very wrong.
If I truly believe you to be inferior, and therefore don't respect you, no matter how you perceive it, I still have 0 respect for you. In your opinion, I may respect you completely, and let's give "completely" a value of 100.
So, in this instance, my opinion is that I have 0 respect for you, and your opinion is that I have 100 respect for you - I just don't like you.
So in this case, who's right and who's wrong?
Well, we're both right, and we're both so disgustingly wrong at the same time. However, if someone absolutely must "win" in this scenario, then I would say that I am the winner, and that you are wrong, simply because I am the one who is doing the respecting, or not respecting as it may be. If the tables were turned, and you were the one who felt superior to me, then I would be wrong.
Does that make sense?
But then what do the people I do admire get from me? The way I see it, using "respect" to mean "not treating people like an ..." leaves a gaping linguistic void. And those are dangerous.I disagree with everything you said. I think the term "showing respect" (ie, being courteous and polite) means that you are showing that you respect someone.

You might fall in and drown in somebody's word-hoard, you see.Admiration or respect. You choose. I'm not so sure about the "gaping linguistic void" that is apparently so dangerousI'll try to explain what I mean...
Way I see it you respect his musical skills. Still an integrant part of the person.
I'd automatically respect anyone as an individaul. I don't think anyone has the right to consider there own lives/activities to be any more important than those of anyone else. So initially theres that inherent respect, which goes for anyone whoever they are / whatever they do.
Theres another kind of respect, which is more personal and is generally earned. I have little respect in this way for the people who'd screw me and others over, or people who try to be something there not. I have 100% respect for people who will be themselves and not knowingly do harm to others. All imho of course...
