I've had the most luck with just laying on clear coat and wetsanding. To get a mirror though I polish between wetsanding and finish with 2000 grit.

Hey thought I'd make a club. I'll hand out numbers too! Anyone who aint afraid to dig in and change the look of their bass on the cheap! Here's my refinishes, all colors came from the shelf at wal mart.
My first attempt. Looks good, but didn't prime it well enough so it started chipping away. 2001 Affinity P bass.

That blue is really nice, maybe it's just the photo but that looks nicer than the average blue affinity P.

Yeah just metallic blue from wal mart with a ton of clear. It was originally black.

Why did you move the thumbrest?

This pickguard was drilled for the lower position.I don't use it anyway so it's no biggie.

Hah I have thumb rests on my main J and main P. I don't use them either. I just think they look cool..

* Has anyone tried any of the 2 part polyurethane clear coats? There was a brand (name escapes me) that you pushed a button on the bottom of the can to activate the hardener. You had approx 8 hours before the can wouldn't shoot.

Sounds like Killer Cans by Alsa. You can get them on ebay. Never used it on a bass, but I used the 2-part clear when I refinished my Rhodes top. Got great, glossy results and didn't have to wet sand.
