Just for fun, here are the reasons that our band practice has been cancelled for the past two months (five piece band numbered 1-5):
Date Band Member who cancelled Reason
23-Mar #2 Under the gun at work
#4 Computer got hacked
30-Mar #1 Storms are going to get violent
6-Apr #2 Had throat scoped
13-Apr #1 Weather getting ugly and
another door jamb encounter
20-Apr #1 Ribs still sore
27-Apr #1 Ribs still sore
People coming over to do work at the house
4-May #2 Wife has stomach bug
Feels it coming on on him, too
11-May #2 Had cancer spots removed from face
18-May #4 Had to go to dentist
25-May #1 Lots of things to do before holiday weekend
#4 Possible covid
31-May #4 Dog got hit and killed

I could post a list of what I consider to be some whoppers, some of which would top these. But honestly, I think it would only frustrate me to have someone here defend them.

The guys I play with these days never, ever rehearse, outside of soundcheck jams. It wouldn't be practical for us to get together with any regularity anyway, given how far-flung all over the state we are... especially now that it costs a dollar to start up the car. We do just fine. Nobody wants to practice anyway, so we just work around it.

So I got nothing beyond saying that I would be explosively frustrated with anybody who continued to not honor committments.

#2 and #4 seem legit, #1 not so much. I do have to admit that is too many cancellations for my taste. Do you think they are actually telling the truth?
Yeah, I think so, but there have been questions.
Every single rehearsal from Mar. 23 to May 31, assuming rehearsals once per week. Yeah, there might be some valid reasons, but the message I would get is that people are looking for those reasons because they don't want to rehearse.
I agree.

#1 seems uninterested in being a part of this band.
I agree.

From your other threads, is this the band that has been together many years and plays the same tired set list? What do you do in rehearsals? Nothing wrong with just playing in the basement every week if it's fun for everyone, but it sounds like these guys aren't into it any more.

Man you guys sound like you have Boomer mentality...but many of those are legit reasons if true.

I've been in bands where every week someone cancels and you don't get together for several weeks or months. IMO it's a sign that the band has run it's course and the other members are not that into it any more. Bands that rehearse weekly or more need to be kept fresh with new songs or writing sessions. If you're just running through the same set list over and over it can become pretty stale after awhile. Usually it just takes one person bowing out to get everyone else to also decide to move on.
