Reasons for cancelling Band Practice.

We lost a major gig because a fully vaxxed and boosted member contracted the virus two days before the show. Nothing we could do but cancel and wait for him to be healthy again.
No sub for him?

There had to be other issues, too?
Loads of gigs available at last min...well a few days notice.
Hardly anyone cancels anymore though so I'd assume no one is testing.
I think those terms are used interchangeably. Almost everyone that I play in bands with says "practice" when they are talking about band "rehearsal."
sure. And I’m being a little bit-picky, but I guess in my circle of musicians, and my high school students, we practice our parts on our own. When we get together we rehearse to to put all the parts together. I don’t expect/want to listen to you work out your part while we’re all waiting to run the song.
No one schedules regular get togethers but if one is required, a defined list will be sent out.
Guys put the time in, turn up on the day and top and tail the song.
Its a given that they'll have their parts down and will know the format so unless there are any sticky parts, its a run through, got it and move on.
It really would be a massive waste of time if people don't prep well for this meet. And it would probably suggest that person or whole outfit wasn't viable for the gigs that are planned.
So, since there would likely just be the one meet up, then a cancellation would have to be for a really good reason.
But...one of the reasons you use these guys is because you know and trust they will have their end covered.

The only thing I was "trying hard" to do was have a conversation. I didn't realize we were arguing. I thought we're just sharing differing experiences/viewpoints.

I'm dealing with this right now. Honestly, I just joined this forum as part of dealing with the grief and loss of realizing that our ADHD lead singer and main songwriter slowly choking the life from our very good, well-liked band. I thought hanging online with like-minded players would help, and it has. Thanks for making me feel a little less alone.
It can be a real drag.
Once we got out of the "band" situation, it got much easier to be a friend to this person, without getting pissed off or frustrated every 5 days for something trival (or not so trivial).
Some people have legit mental, physical, post-traumatic issues that make it hard for them to be relied upon, in a band context, or any "normal functioning citizen" context.
This isn't the first time (for any of us) that a band has been capsized by someone with pre-existing, chronic issues... but the good news is, I'm much better friends with these people once I'm not in a dependent relationship with them. There's still a happy ending after the band dissolves, since I'm still pals with them, and they're healthier people today.

Wow...11 pages re: missing rehearsals, that's some traction! Not sure if the subject is primarily about someone not showing up, or if whether a pet's death is a valid reason. Anyway, my .02:
As far as the deceased pet scenario, people react different to tragedies, car accidents, traffic tickets, job loss, loss of loved ones, inc. pets.
Some need their space to mourn and reflect, others (like myself) prefer to get back into the fold to take some of the trauma away. 2 each their own.
As far as missing a rehearsal in general, a lot depends on what the project is. Missing a paid rehearsal is one thing, some B/L's would not have it, others would allow it depending on the circumstance.
If it's a matter of missing a "Band Practice", IMO the biggest consideration would be the amount of inconvenience caused to the other band members who kept their schedules free to show up.
Finally, for those who disdain rehearsal in general, or consider it irrelevant or amateur- Whatever. Personally, if I'm performing material I like with players I like, I totally enjoy that time, and going over material sure isn't going to make it sound any worse!

I enjoy band practice/ rehearsal. Most times.And I've found that in the real world learning songs at rehearsal is often a necessity
Your dog dying is like losing a family member in my opinion. I’m sympathetic. It’s totally dependent on how serious the band is, how important the upcoming gig or gigs are, and what the bottom line is. If not showing up for a rehearsal is going to seriously injure the band and members, one must suck it up and rehearse.
