recent thread about winning Lotto and Basses ... my experience ..!

I would like to think I'd be like the OP, and not invest in business ventures.
It's like all these sports stars that make millions, retire/get hurt/have a short career, invest in these things... Then go broke. They make more money by the time they're 25 then I'll make in my lifetime, then have nothing to show for it.
Figure out how much you need to live a good life, buy some toys, and sit on the rest.

Most people spend there lives trying to make a million, so they can retire and be comfortable, then when they get it handed to them, they piss its way in record time.

Malak ... the Med CD was quite a challenge , ... playing so very little requires mild herbal sedatives .. !! but it was a very good way to learn how to get around on a couple new keyboards at that time ... Virus Ti , Korg M3 ... the Xmas music CD was a bit ...

Akron - Chrissie ( not a fan , but it's cool when anyone gets a hit ) ... moved to the suburbs of Akron in 69 to Tallmadge - the land of the Mothersbaugh bros = DEVO ... and of course the local Cleveland i was in ...
The Easy Street Band ...

inventions ... i've had a few interesting ideas ... but by the time i can remember what i thought up , ... well , it's already out there .. ! ha ... like ; metronome implants for drummers , ... or anti slap meds for those with poor timing .!?

luckily i got into the stock market in the mid 90's ... luckily pulled out half of that b4 1 crash , and was into stuff that didn't take the hit of the next crash ... just dumb luck = like winning the lotto .. !!

Funny inventions.

Now one last Big question:

In the 23 years of your experience, what would you have done differently now that you've been through winning the lotto and any problems that come with it?

What have you learned from not having to work a day job? Haha.. (But I know dealing with life is a full-time job too)

I can't wait to see your ridiculously long or short, answer.. Ha.

woulda , coulda , shoulda ... has never really been in my thought process ... as it doesn't matter ...

but i can play a little ... there are a few cars and guitars i really really wish i would have kept ...
the cars would be dependent on where i was living .. ! Axes - my Pedulla , 67 Tele Custom , Sadowsky , first Parker Fly , first PRS .

i think i'd stay in Ohio ... i/we are really sick of Florida for many reason ...

longer answer later ... time to go play Frisbee with the wild puppy .. !!

Wow. Congrats on the winning and keeping some cash after all the years. I had a terrible motorcycle accident and got about 200k. I was able to work again but the money helped till I was back on my feet. I filled a much smaller studio and with my dream gear. Hey still have a good bank account, working, play in my band, oh and just got married a few months ago. I think back to being in a wheelchair for a year. If not for my music I don't think I would have made it. Great story here.

the X ... probably broke , ... been married at least 3x since 94 ... ha ... b*tch ... no love lost here ..sorry

maybe if she hadn't poisoned our son's brain full of lies ,... and was kind enough to make my Aussie disappear , and took my Rotti ... moved my horse ( the sudden change in food killed her ) ... should i go on?

no thanks ...

This was an interesting read. Thanks for sharing, Dav. Seems like you've handled it OK. It's strange, the thing about people winning big and being broke in 10 years, and that it happens so much. Sure, it's a shock and it can screw with your head in the begining; but to allow that to carry on... interesting psychological phenomenon. If I won the lottery; I'd keep it very low key, wipe out some people's debts, and give to charity anonymously. I think I'd buy a couple of vintage Precision basses and spend on a home studio. I'm not a car guy (luckily?), it's pretty much all guitars with me. You should have kept the Sadowsky, though. ;) So you recommend the Kronos 88? At some point I need to buy a keyboard, but I'm going back and forth on what's best, to go with a real workstation or MIDI + modules?

i have a first gen Kronos 88 ... my ' holy grail ' for my keys has always been a playable piano sound . The Kronos does that for me , and a whole lot more . I prefer dedicated Hardware to software . The Kronos has 9 synth engines in it . I also have a Yamaha MOXF6 , which fills in the Motif type sounds that i liked and was missing . i've had or tried at home , most workstations over the years . Yes , i would recommend the Kronos .
It plays sound live directly from it's internal SSD ... I have not tried the newest Yamaha board yet , but i have those sounds covered . Here's a piano/ soft string patch i've been working on . ( i got a little carried away with the volume of the 'mechanical noises ' ) you can here the sustain pedal working ...

i've test drove several 'old' cars from the 50's/60's/70's ... but i really prefer the safety features of newer cars ... especially since my wife's semi-deadly car accident was in a 69 Chevelle .. !

i like to look at old cars ... but not drive them

Aw man, one of the best testdrives I ever took was in a '64 Chevelle. That bench seat, even at the time (I did this in 2004 or so) was more comfortable than any modern buckets. The 60s and early 70s are the greatest era for automotive design IMHO. I didn't buy it, but it sure was awesome.

I like that this thread popped back up. I commend ya on all your doings, DavC; you just appear to be a simple, decent human being.

Me, now going through a divorce myself - If I won the lottery, I'd spend every red cent trying to not be getting divorced.

money can't buy love ... or happiness ...

even now ' grumpy ' stops by way to often ... you'd think a 20+ yr vacation would keep 'grumpy , whiny ' away .. !!??

got a note from the Un-Friended 'X' via FB today ... of course she starts off trying to ask for a favor with the appropriate words " I Need " ... that's not exactly how things work , is it ..??

anyways ... after 3 divorces , she wants to join a Catholic church , and says their Rules state she needs to have marriages annulled .. ?!? by definition , that means they never happened , as in null and void ..!
sorry , lying about or trying to change the past for any reason , is a very daft Rule ... and basically , would just be a lie .. !! sorry , no thanks !!
so now i'm an even bigger a-hole for not playing by someone else's fake rules .. ?!!? ha ... cool ..!!

money can't buy love ... or happiness ...

Oh, not that it would work, but, my family is gone and there's nothing else in the world for me to care about, so yeah, I'd try. Maybe put lots and lots of money into developing time travel. I'm not the one who did wrong to begin with, but I could have done something better when we tried to reconcile.

DavC,

You've heard all the quotes, "does money buy happiness and love?" etc...

That is funny because I was eventually also going to ask now that it's been 20+ years of money, the "can money buy happiness and love," question..

And You kind of answered it..

I don't know everything that's gone on in your life, but I Often wonder about how much more "grumpy and whiny" your life would be without "money"...

so It often makes me think about how all the sayings about how money can't buy love or happiness are bull.. definitely bull.. ha.

DavC, I have to get your opinion on this scenario.. and this could probably get me a lot of flak, ha

For Example,

Scenario 1. The person with money:

A.)-got a problem with your car that costs $8000+ to fix? no problem, you got money, just pay and fix it..

B.)-got a problem with a friend who is mad about something? no problem, you can do all kinds of things with your money including expensive gifts, dinners, vacations, etc..

C.) Waiting in a long line for something? Airport/clubs/etc.. Just use your money to get you ahead, (Priority class and or slip a $100 to the person to "help" you out..)

D.) Got a Major Health Problem - Well you got money, so you can afford the best most expensive Doctor and Hospital around.. and you'll get that "Priority treatment" because you can afford it..

Scenario 2. Now lets put this situation with a person who doesn't have money:

A.)-Got a problems with your car that costs $8,000+ to fix? you are taking the bus with the crazies and probably putting that car in the junk-yard..

B.) -Got a problem with a friend who is mad about something? - you can't do anything but listen to how mad they are... and can't even take them out to a nice dinner because it's too expensive..

C.) - Waiting in line for something or plane delayed etc..? - you will be so upset and there is nothing you can do because you have no money to try to help solve the situation... and you are stuck not able to afford or do anything to help the situation..

D.) - got a Major Health problem? - Well you aren't going to even get an appointment because they are all booked and you can't even afford the surgery anyway so your SoL...

These are ridiculous examples I know, maybe and DavC can attest to this, that you can easily get out of your "grumpy" or "whiny" situations with the help of money.. right?

i've been on both sides of the fence , so to speak ...

A) b4 lotto ... took care of my stuff , so break downs where rare ... when they did happen , having a couple bucks set aside , plus always having had great credit ... there was a way to pay for needed repairs ...

after lotto ... my cars ,... i think only 2 of them might have made it to their first oil change since 94 ..
had a couple flats and bent expensive rims ... just had them fixed ...
wife cars , several had had a few oil changes .. ha ...

my breakdowns are more house oriented ... still weigh the options of value to fix or replace !

B ) same b4 or after ... i don't do stupid crap that would make friends mad at me ... they know who i am = that's what you get - deal with it ..

C) b4/after - waited on my fair share of planes ... the only priority kind of boarding was on a couple couple cruises where we had a Suite and prior traveling browny points ... that was cool .. BUT , i hate cruises ..!!

D) my wife has had many surgeries ... no special treatment , except from me , of course ... i've slept on the floor in her room a few times ... her 8 hr long neck surgery was pretty scary stuff ... the only strange stuff is my doctors like to talk about sport cars with me ..! ha

my grumpy comments are more towards the spouse ... some people let other people crap interfere with their own moods ... that is 100% wrong , the only person in charge of your mood is YOU ... plus we all get to go thru our own hormonal journeys ..!! fun stuff ..

i have always had issues with people that like to waste time complaining/whining about crap, instead of taking steps to fix the problem . Use your energy wisely .!

Money can't buy you love , but it pays for lots of lap dances ..! ha ... kidding ..!
