2 part post ;

i am very very surprised that one of my more recent cheapo experiment builds , is now one of my all time favorites ..?? a VM body , Indonesia neck w/lots of fretwork , new Barts , new pots, BA bridge , Schaller tuners ... it's just surprising how good it feels /plays ..??! ( since This is the Bass section .!? )

part duex ... a rather personal question for the collective ; ' Father's Day ' ... sadly in my son's almost 32 yrs , i've had 2 , maybe 3 , Happy Father's Day cards/wishes ..!? you'd think after giving mom a few mil and paying 1k a month child support for a decade , and having been Mr Mom while playing full time 6 nights a week ... this lack of giving a crap has really ruined Father's Day for me ...!!?? i've been rather grumpy for a couple days . Which is fairly out of character . I usually can just ' let things go ' ,...!!? but this bug is still stuck in my butt for some reason ..?? equally pissed at the mom & child , as they both own it ... she should have taken care of it when he was young , and then at some point we all grow up ..?? maybe ..?!

i am way off base finding this behavior - disheartening and disrespectful ...???

and should i just try harder to let it go ..? knowing my dog loves his Daddy very much ..!?? ( as long as i promise to never make him swim again .! )

Sweet looking bass @DavC! Is that a mother of pearl control plate or is it just the lighting?

I feel for you about the slump. I've been there before from other things, and I follow the same let it go philosophy. I get out of it, but seems to take forever when I'm in it. Best of luck, you're a well deserving guy!

Oh and thanks for the additional reminder. I'm one of those that does the verbal father's day and I'm pretty pitiful at sending cards or gifts.

Hey Dave, I feel for you. And though it's tough to just let it go, sometimes that's the best way. You can't let yourself be hurt by things that you can't control.

But having said that, always keep that door open, and always extend an open hand, you never know when he might reach out to hold it.
And if he never does, take comfort in the fact you did all you could, and his decisions are his alone.

My recommendation, write a letter to him. Not an email or text, an actual letter.
Tell him where your heart is, not blaming or pointing fingers, it'll never help your cause, but just lay it out there how much you miss and love him.

I'm 49, I'm on the other side of this, not due to divorce, just a parental distance my whole life... if my mom did that for me, it would change my world, and the rest of my life.

thanks for the thoughts/words ... that door is always open for the son ( wife is own her own ) .. !!

i guess the holiday is just a reminder ... can't change the past = let it go , can't control the future = don't even try ...

the control plate is aged mop ... with abalone cap knobs ... the body was a VM fretless , so there aren't any screw holes for a plate ... the body was my first attempt at a mild aging / deglossing ( it was brand new . ha )

my folks live right next door to us here ... and we recently moved my wife's 95 yr old dad in with us ... yes , i am quickly going crazy - er ... !!!

my mom is just recovering from a 6 month long mystery blood infection , my dad had a small stroke last week , wife's dad is fighting prostate cancer that spread to his tail bone ...

so ... why did i quit drinking ... ???

peace ... and thanks again ... !!

oh well ... he / son missed another year ...

we are FB friends = it would be pretty easy .. ??!!??

but i did get a very cute card from my very loveable dog ( as i do every year . ! )

Sorry to hear that, Dave. Try to take comfort in the fact that you've done your upmost best. Like the old saying: "You can lead a horse to water......well, you know the rest.

Best regards

sorry ... not a lot of musical type news here lately ... being fairly retired , the wife and i get to take care of the old folks ... which , as they age and have more health issues , is becoming a full time job ... but it OK !

just got a slightly used ACME low B1 ... always wanted one or 2 of these all purpose looking cabs .. what a cool useful great sounding little box ... !!

swapped a fretless bass for a 1974 Alvarez J200 lawsuit acoustic ... sweet .. !

the 4 strg parts basses are pretty much done ... and play/sound pretty darn good for the bucks .. !!

my 5ver , Warmoth parts bass is getting it's previous owner's crappy poly finish , sanded down ... then trying to get a smooth aged oil/wax satin kinda look ... it's slowly getting there ...

and picked up another keyboard ... Roland FA-08 ... why , .? not sure .?? probably because Sweetwater had a 48 month 0% sale .. !! and i hope to play it out one of these days .. ! keeping my much more costly Kronos at home in the studio .. !

Subtle, yet understated pickguard.

What better to do after a gig than come home and read all 12 pages of this thread!
Thanks for sharing your story/experiences/knowledge... definitely a compelling story to see "behind the curtain", and congratulations on being the exception at turning a lotto win into a stable, long term blessing.
As you've said, even with money life is life, and it'll never be perfect. I hope you maintain your positive outlook, and that the family & health issues weighing on your conscious are all resolved eventually with a positive outcome.
Thanks again for sharing, and I hope to see many more posts.
